Youthreach Ballina

Youthreach Ballina Youthreach Ballina is a centre of education for early school leavers (15-20 yrs) who wish to re-enter the education system.

We cater for 25 learners and are located in the town of Ballina with a catchment area encompassing all of North Mayo.

Creative Schools

We have had a wonderful time over the last two years exploring creativity through our involvement with the Creative Schools programme funded by the Arts Council. Our learners have been enabled to perform, write, create and explore through all kinds of media which has culminated in an exciting project that we will launch in the new school year, a book full of work from our fantastic learners all based around their chosen theme of Friendship.

The project was entirely learner led and facilitated by great creative talents in the world of writing and art. We were very fortunate to have Deirbhile Ní Éili as our creative consultant and she was able to assist our learners to explore their creativity in ways they may not have done before. We look forward to having the published book in hand, here is a sneak peak of the cover (which was created in a workshop in our centre) watch this space!

The students of Youthreach, Ballina were delighted and honoured to take part in the Community Constellations project for Mayo Dark Skies recently.
The students had the opportunity to draw and name 3 different constellations from the array of stars in the Mayo Sky.
3 new constellations, ‘Cnoc’, ‘Craobh na Choiligh’ & ‘Madra Rua’ were named. These 3 constellations then combined to form “Iolar” the eagle, a symbol of both the majesty and awe-inspiring nature of Mayo’s dark skies.
As a project icon ‘Iolar’ celebrates a new network of communities engaged in protecting and restoring the night skies over county Mayo for present and future generations.

What an amazing time our QQI and LCA1 learners had at our overnight stay with . A 10km hike led by the learners in Letterkeen, Kelly kettle, archery, songs, games stand up paddleboard games, all alongside learning green skills, leadership, team work, sustainability and so so much more as part of the Green Adventure Programme. So much learning and development, we are very proud of our learners. Many thanks to Laura, Mick, Jessie, Richard and our teachers Dennis and Natasha.
