Operating as usual
Our butterflies 🦋 were released this morning as they didn’t appear in time for graduation unfortunately.
What beautiful creatures. Even in Nature we have diversity but it didn’t stop it flying away to enjoy the dandelion
A big congratulations to all my graduates 🎓 we will miss you loads. Have a great time in big school. My juniors who are coming back we will see you all in September have a wonderful summer. I’d like to say a huge thank you to my staff Breda Byrne Sinead Gallagher and Tracey Doyle who have made the last year possible through their hard work and dedication to the children and the playschool. It has been great working with you all. Thank you for all our wonderful presents that we received today they are much appreciated. ❤️ this little red hen is taking some time out, but looking forward to a new adventure in September when we welcome our new chicks to the group. Enjoy the summer and stay safe.
The children had great fun this morning following my husband’s drone around the garden and watching the video of themselves on the tv. Great excitement in the sunshine. The group got the take home some of their flowers for Father’s Day which can be sen in the video at the gate.
Amazing to watch a wasp 🐝 making it’s nest. It’s a pity we have to take it down as it’s in our potting shed. Nature is wonderful
Busy little people painting on a new surface -silage bales. The yellow wrap is in aid of childhood cancers. Running free in the silage field was a new adventure. They decided that the cattle needed the silage brought to them at the gate. Our plants are almost ready for home. Amazing artist 👨🎨
Saying goodbye to our chicks. One of the boys has taken them to their forever home. Sunshine and bubbles outdoors. All we have to do now is wait for the caterpillars to arrive.
Two of our new chicks have moved from the incubator into their new home for now. Very noisy little individuals. The third one will join them tomorrow once it’s completely dry
So busy forgot to post our work from last week. The children are enjoying storytelling by using props which engages the younger ones more than reading from the book. We also tried out our new pencils practice boards.
[04/30/21] I can’t believe I’m saying this but we have only 3 places left for 2023 and 6 for 2024. So if there are parents who plan on attending The Little Red Hen Playschool. I’d highly recommend you contact Julie @ 0876659935 ASAP. Check out the playschools page also. There are currently waiting lists for 21/22
So the three little pigs was the theme this week following on from our community map and where we live. This activity was a great source of discussion and ideas as they group enjoyed the sunshine while doing art and craft outside. Colours textures counting shapes and storytelling all wrapped into one. The straw as you can see found it’s way into farming and bedding the cows 😂😂 even the birds scored as they took some from the lawn.
Our community map is looking great lots of conversation about where everyone lives and how to get home from playschool. The three little pigs got new houses which provoked a lot of interest. Beautiful day out in the fresh air. The three little pigs and the big bad wolf got a facelift from Sally Lewis 😻
We sowed our peas, sunflowers, horse chestnuts and pumpkins today before finishing for Easter. Hopefully they will appear before we return to school.
Easter egg hunt done. We enjoyed cinema. Can you hear the munching of snax’s 😂

Something for the little people to do with ice and cellophane. Simple but effective
So Santa 🎅 finally finished his rounds for the little red hen playschool. Thanks to my elves Sinead Gallagher Breda Byrne Tracey doyle and James Winterbottom who helped Santa light up the trailer and the ladies who helped for the last three nights.
Wow so proud of all my little people and parents who donated to the Lauralynn charity this morning we raised €250 for a great cause while having fun wearing and designing Christmas jumpers. These cards will be delivered by post next week with the time and details of a very special Santa visit. Covid wont stop Santa and the Little Red Hen.all necessary precautions will be taken.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Lots of concentration and fine motor skills being used. Amazing what little fingers can do when it’s broken down into simple steps. I can do it myself !!!
Our wooden owls completes the autumn theme for this year. The children were completely engaged in building bridges and dens. It all started with one of the group wanting to role play the story of the three billy goats gruff. Everyone got involved and over three days it expanded to having disco music and sensory lights. Lots of ideas and discussion
Daffodils sown and posters made for home. The group really got involved in the whole process. Those who are second years showed their knowledge of growing the flowers. Breaking the process down into steps allowed everyone to do it for themselves. We also finished our autumn season with hedgehogs by making salt dough pencil holders. There was lots of sensory play with the dough allowing everyone the opportunity to make and express their ideas and knowledge of hedgehog 🦔 our new rufus window display also encouraged the group to wash those hands.
So the Halloween party and cinema is event went really well this morning. Very excited Children all round.
A very attentive audience
Halloween cinema ready for tomorrow. Hope the children are not too scared 😂😂 room on a broom showing at the little red hen playschool with treats. The full cinema experience and party afterwards.
Halloween ready. Due to covid parents are not allowed to entry playschool so here are a few pictures of what’s inside this week. The children are making Halloween decorations using paint and recycled kitchen rolls to create ghosts and bats. Rolling marbles in white paint on black card provides the opportunity to do process art and use it to make a spiderweb. Lots of gross and fine motor skills being developed. Autumn leaves are being used for leaf rubbing and discussion about colours, the season and how the leaves change colour each year. All while outdoors.
Well Halloween decorations are up thanks to Sally Lewis help this morning. Our new bathroom has a shelter for those rainy days thanks to Richie Keegan and his son lee who attends playschool. A greats days work all round and our outdoor classroom finally has its display board ready for all our wonderful masterpieces that the group will be making and creating in the coming weeks. Parental involvement is so important and gratefully appreciated.
Busy little people this week. Lots of physical activity outdoor play and exploration. Music was high on the agenda. We had marching bands. Cooperation and negotiations around sharing bikes etc. The children are enjoying the freedom to run race, cycle and choose their own activities.
Our new outdoor classroom is getting lots of use and playtime at the poly tunnel provided new exploration and ideas being developed. Lots of negotiation for our new children who are learning to share and cooperate with each other. There is nothing like fresh air and sunshine to brighten up your day. Many new learning opportunities to discover as they all settle in and make new friends
Three busy weeks and the group have settled in well. Thanks to dan Siron we got our hedge cut and the children helped cleanup all the clippings with the tractors and dumpers. All hands on deck. Lots of activities out doors enjoying the weather.
Well graduation happened today. Not as planned but as a drive by to each child’s house. It was lovely to see all the children again and give them a special teddy to celebrate their graduation. Thanks to Breda Byrne for making the hats and Sinéad for making the buns.
