Thank you to Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of Technological University of the Shannon and Dr Anna Logan PFHEA, Interim Executive Dean of the DCU Institute of Education for joining us for the unveiling.

Designed using 100% recyclable and upcycled materials, this unique piece highlights the synergy between Home Economics and Technology, while also reflecting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This student-led creation is intended to inspire future Home Economics and Technology students. We are proud to display it in the Department of Hospitality, Tourism & Leisure at Campus. A special mention to Lecturer and Home Economist Roisin Lydon for guiding the students with this project from concept to completion. A huge well done to all involved.

A highlight of Semester 2 in the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Campus is welcoming Level 5 learners fromLaois and Offaly Education and Training Board in Tullamore. It is wonderful to be able to facilitate students in gaining hands-on culinary experience in a higher education environment.

A pleasure to collaborate with Patricia Patterson from Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board on this module, and a special mention to Lecturer John Killeen for his continued support and commitment to this project.

Brew for BUMBLEance Charity Coffee Morning

Congratulations to our Second-Year Business Studies with Event Management students, along with First-Year Culinary Arts students, who raised €600 for Ireland’s only dedicated Children’s Ambulance Service. The students recently hosted a Brew for BUMBLEance Charity Coffee Morning in the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure , along with their lecturers Dymphna Scnalon, Kelly Gallagher and Sandra Griselain.

A special congratulations to second-year Culinary Arts student, Lesslie Angeles Terrazas Miguel, who recently earned a Bronze Medal at the Knorr Professional Student Chef of the Year 2026 competition. Lesslie was assisted during the competition by her Culinary Arts classmate Oisín O’Flanagan and mentored by Lecturers John Killeen and Shane Sheedy. 

Lesslie, originally from Bolivia and now living in Athlone, is a rising culinary talent who was also recognised in last year’s competition as the Assistant Skills Test Award Winner.   

Thank you to our colleagues on the TUS Moylish campus for hosting. Congratulations to Rebecca Mahon of on winning the competition, and to Moira Fitzgerald from for achieving the silver medal.

Order in the court ⚖️ 4th year moot court in session!

Last Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Solicitor Phil O’Laoide to our new mock courtroom to preside over our fourth year Business and Law student’s final moot of the Semester.

There was an impressive amount of legal knowledge and skill on show with plenty of persuasive arguments made for Phil to deliberate over. Many thanks to Phil for her thoughtful judgments and a very well done to our students.

The Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure was delighted to welcome Niall Farrell, Doctoral Candidate from to deliver a guest lecture to our & B.Ed in Home Economics and Technology students

Niall’s talk, “Awareness to Action: LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Education,” shared insights from his PhD research and offered thoughtful, practical guidance to our students on fostering inclusive learning environments at post-primary level. The session encouraged reflection, broadened understanding, and equipped our students, as future teachers, with practical strategies to move from awareness to meaningful action in their classrooms.

The BEdHET is the only teacher-education degree in Ireland combining Home Economics and Technology and is fully accredited by The Teaching Council.
