Pernahkah Anda mendengar tentang minuman herbal tradisional dari Jawa bernama 'jamu'? Kata jamu berasal dari bahasa Jawa kuno 'djampi' (artinya 'penyembuhan') dan 'oesodo' (artinya 'kesehatan'). Varian jamu bermacam-macam, dari yang rasa manis hingga rasa pahit. Kami akan mengadakan acara 'mencoba jamu' Kamis ini (21 Mei) pada istirahat pendek pertama. Silakan datang dan mencoba macam-macam jamu yang akan kami suguhkan! 🥃

Have you heard about Javanese traditional herbal drink 'jamu'? The word jamu is derived from the Old Javanese words 'djampi' (means 'healing') and 'oesodo' (means 'health'). There are many variants of jamu, from the sweet through bitter one. We will have a 'jamu tasting' this Thursday (21 May) on the first short break. Minggu lalu, Guru Jono bersama murid kami yaitu Mbak Takara dari Australia melakukan kunjungan ke Difa Bike Yogyakarta. Difa Bike adalah sebuah layanan inklusif untuk mobilitas dan perjalanan di area Kota Yogyakarta, yang didirikan oleh Bapak Triyono. Bapak Triyono adalah alumni Australia Awards, dan ia harap Difa Bike bisa menjadi ‘jembatan’ inklusif bagi teman-teman difabel untuk juga bisa berkontribusi terhadap pergerakan ekonomi di Yogyakarta. Sukses selalu untuk Difa Bike Yogyakarta!

Last week, Guru Jono along with our student Mbak Takara from Australia were having a discussion visit to Difa Bike Yogyakarta. Difa Bike is an inclusive service for mobility and trip within the Yogyakarta area, which was founded by Bapak Triyono. Bapak Triyono is an alumnus of Australia Awards, to which he hoped that Difa Bike can be a inclusive ‘bridge’ towards friends with disabilities to be able to contribute to the economic movement in Yogyakarta. Yang menarik, banyak orang juga terbiasa menggunakan bentuk lain dari ungkapan terima kasih ini, yaitu 'matur suwun'. Belum diketahui secara pasti dari mana asalnya dan sejak kapan orang-orang menggunakan ekspresi 'matur suwun' ini.

Did you know? The proper utterance for 'terima kasih' in Javanese language is 'matur nuwun'. Interestingly, many people are also used to utilize another form of this thankful expression, that is 'matur suwun'. It is still unclear where this is originally come from and since when people are using this 'matur suwun' expression.

Hari ini, ayo berkenalan dengan Guru Jono! Pak Guru Jono sudah bekerja di Wisma Bahasa selama 17 tahun berturut-turut, dan sangat s**a bersepeda dan mendengarkan musik rock sebagai hobi! Guru Jono pandai memainkan alat musik gitar, dan sering terlihat menjadi gitaris bersama Guru Anof di banyak acara-acara internal Wisma Bahasa! Selain menjadi guru Bahasa Indonesia, ia juga menjadi guru Bahasa Jawa.

Today, let's meet Guru Jono! Pak Guru Jono has been working at Wisma Bahasa for 17 consecutive years and enjoys cycling and listening to rock music as hobbies! Guru Jono is good at playing guitar instrument, and often seen becoming guitarist with Guru Anof at many internal events of Wisma Bahasa! Besides teaching Bahasa Indonesia, he also teaches Bahasa Jawa.
