The aim of Kubu Art Space is two fold. Firstly, to showcase solo exhibitions of balinese artists and secondly, to create wider discussions and understanding of contemporary art in Bali. Owner Wayan Yudane, says, “The aim of the gallery is to create discourse on balinese contemporary art, not with big words but through discussions about the smaller details that make up the whole. Talking from the smallest quaver and half note to whole note. Part of this discussion gives us an easier understanding of what the artist means and how to help artists talk about their work. Basically artists find it difficult to talk about what they’re doing and we are really looking at making links between the artwork and the story of the artwork for art appreciators from many walks of life. When there’s more understanding between the creator and those who appreciate art, more people can become actively involved in the arts on multi-levels. In that way very different people can come to appreciate art and through discussion this helps to make all of us understand more about art in Bali. Atleast we can contribute, can give and continue to create art if we understand each other. We also hope that this can help artists, writers, collectors and art lovers understand the growing and changing voice of contemporary art around us.”
