My latest workshop was about modeling authenticity.
This subject has become very close to my heart especially in recent years where I learned more and more how important it was to me to speak my truth.
I realized that if I model being my most authentic self I encourage and empower my children to be the same.
But there are moments when I felt it is not right to speak my truth. One of the hardest one was around themes like Christmas. How to answer questions about Santa Claus or gifts coming from the North Pole especially when I just bought them at the store one hour ago.
I struggled, I tried to avoid the questions, change the subject, anything to not have to lie and possibly crush the believes, imagination and wonder of a 5 year old.
Then I thought about my own knowledge and believes around the subject.
In that moment I did believe in the spirit of Christmas and the magic that came with this time of the year, as well as the dislike of the commercialization.
With this awareness I was ready to answer the next time my little girl asked me.
I told her my truth and encouraged her to find her own. She decided she believed in Santa, Elves and Magic and that Christmas was so much more than presents but she also believed that some presents are bought in stores by for example grandma or grandpa.
This was the one of the moments I learned that speaking my truth and being authentic does not have to interfere with my children being just that - kids.

•••Resiliency •••

•Resiliency is such a buzzword these days. How do we actually help our kids grow into resilient adults?

•Help them develop supportive relationships
Research has shown that in order to be resilient, children need at least one stable, committed relationship with a supportive adult. Relationships with adults are protective and help children feel loved and valued. These responsive and nurturing relationships help the brain develop as it should. This means children are able to learn the important coping skills that they need to be resilient. Without these relationships, the brain senses threat, and the stress response will remain activated, limiting a child’s ability to learn new skills.  And don’t forget to nurture and encourage supportive, healthy, friendships with peers too. These help children learn important social and emotional skills and keep them feeling connected.

•Teach them how to manage their emotions
This begins when they are very young – help them label their feelings so they can find the language to express how they feel. Validate their feelings so they learn that all emotions are important and need not be feared. Teach them appropriate ways to express how they feel and give them strategies to manage when they feel overwhelmed by strong emotions

•Practice Mindfulness together
Mindfulness has been shown, time and again, to improve resilience in kids. Mindfulness causes changes to occur in the brain that strengthen the pre-frontal cortex. While it’s doing that, it’s also reducing activity in the amygdala. This allows the prefrontal cortex to regain control, calming the emotional brain. And when the emotional brain is calm, so is your child

•Teach them to problem solve
Encourage them to think of all the possible solutions to a problem and then weigh up the pros and cons of each alternative until they come up with the best fit. Try to resist the urge to jump in with the answer – let them figure it out for themselves. And don’t forget to nurture and encourage their creativity – creative people tend to be effective problem solvers because they can think outside the box

•Make sure they know how to ask for help

•Hands up: Who feels triggered by their child?

•We hear you! You are not alone...
Our children are masters at pointing out exactly what we still need to heal

•Unhealed childhood trauma, old wounds of not feeling good enough, feelings of abandonment, outdated belief systems: they just know and will show us in ways that trigger us to the core

•Breathe! Take a moment to allow the incoming trigger to release and give yourself space and time to sit with the emotions

•Allow! Observe! Feel what wants to be felt!
No judgement necessary
These old and stagnant emotions simple want our attention and blessings to move through and out

•Is it uncomfortable? Maybe yes, but it will help you to move past the old stories and into more spaciousness and patience with your kid and guess what....less triggers

But....what if we let go and trust?

After taking little break from our ConsciousParenting work, it was blatantly obvious that we need to step back into it.
Robin has been invited to facilitate workshops for teachers and parents , an international school in Bali.
Together we have been asked to facilitate another in person/online parenting program, which is taking off November 18th.

Stay tuned!

•••Thriving•••
•How can I see my child completely unobstructed?
•Unfiltered? Unspoiled...through my lenses of perception?
•I ask myself this often...How can I be there fully in the presence of my child and see him as he is?
•Not trying to fix him, not trying to push my views or ideas onto him, not trying to make him out to be someone he is not...even if that is uncomfortable, challenging or seemingly impossible for me
•It’s all about space
•The moment I honor and appreciate the space, that minute or even second between input and output, I give him space to express his own thriving spirit in the way that is best suited for him
•If I can breathe through the tough bits of wanting to fix him when he feels hurt; distract him because he is feeling deeply and sometimes that comes with pain; push my life experience onto him...I deny him his own experience
•This was a tough nut to crack for me at first
With time and awareness, lots of awareness, I am getting better at it
•How do you feel about this?
