Apakah hakikat strategi kebangkitan Tiongkok sejatinya? Benarkah Tiongkok berusaha untuk menjadi hegemon? Ataukah ini sekedar ambisi geopolitik kawasan? Sejauh mana Covid-19 memaksa Tiongkok memikirkan kembali strategi kebangkitannya?

"Living under COVID-19 in East Asia: Social and Political Challenges in Japan and Korea"

The year 2020 kicked off like a B-rated horror movie—a global outbreak of an unknown virus that causes severe respiratory disease and death of those in the vulnerable category, no cure and vaccine available, and spreads through human contact. The COVID-19 has not only threatened our everyday lives but also revealed the various social and political challenges in various countries. This discussion will focus on the social and political challenges that have been exposed from the outbreak of COVID-19 in Japan and Korea, namely the vulnerability of certain members of societies including the youth, migrant workers and minorities. In terms of social challenges, we will seek to discuss the situation of the youth in poverty, the hate crimes toward minorities and the vulnerability of migrant workers in the respective countries. Lastly, the discussion will also touch upon the political challenge in East Asia, namely the mistrust between and among East Asian countries revealed through the passiveness to cooperate during COVID-19.

Join us at CSGS LECTURE SERIES #7 on Friday, 17 July 2020, at 14.00-15.30 Jakarta Time (GMT+7), with our distinguished guest speaker:
