Here is a very pithy quote from Maria Montessori herself in her book "Dr. Montessori's Own Handbook" regarding the Pink Tower:

"Ten wooden cubes colored pink. The sides of the cubes diminish from ten centimeters to one centimeter.

With these cubes the child builds a tower, first laying on the ground (upon a carpet) the largest cube, and then placing on the top of it all the others in their order of size to the very smallest.

there are so many benefit from this lesson:

2. Builds concentration. My kids spent a solid hour on this lesson with rapt attention.

Night and day are important concepts to learned by our child. Lessons about the sun can include information about how it affects light and darkness, as well as human and animal activity. Learning about nighttime and daytime works as a precursor to introducing our child to calendars and other methods of tracking time. Use games, songs, books and science experiments to explore the differences between the different times of day and the sun and the moon.
