Flash Back to inspiring memories starts with the youth event on August 6 celebrating International Youth Day with .id young up-and-coming engineers and educating the world on the issues with Fossil Fuels. At the same time celebrating the all woman panel on climate and energy followed by Papua trailblazer Alsa of .sagu opening our minds with the interactive game dusun sagu triggering our thought process on the food decisions we make everyday. Always grateful to have the opportunity to interact with High School students SMA 3 Jakarta. Questioning food, energy and climate conditions must start early so changes can start faster. It has been a pleasure to learn alongside Steffi , local food practioner and advocate focusing in the regency of Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS) in the Province of Nusa Tenggara Timor (NTT) and Ibu Joyce of Yayasan Mentari Menerangi Indonesia (YMMI) as they launch their book "Em He Taha Ten" highlighting 16 local food plants, 10 innovative recipes and the food system of the Atoin Meto people. Such a special book written with teachers Nino, Neno and Esi along with 6 junior high school students. These kind of initiatives are those that spark interest in the young to explore and value more deeply their roots and the profound richness of their culture. Kudos to Steffi and team!

4 activities done in 10 days.

Enjoyed learning about native fruits, rice field rattan, palm leaves for mats with the Community Forestry farmers of Kampong Thom partners, Forestry Administration and project partners from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Excited to start new participatory certification initiatives with various stakeholders across the country.

And wow! Padang food in Phnom Penh!

Thank you AFOCO Korea for another opportunity to share knowledge with Forestry departments from 11 Asian countries. Learning about systematic ways to increase forest poduct value and learning from an herbal Superbrand from Thailand!

It has been extra special to spend 3 days with the Forest Honey Network Indonesia (JMHI) celebrating World Bee Day. JMHI has 9 organizational honey producer members across 7 islands in Indonesia.

We take honey on our pancakes, in our tea, but we don’t often realize the importance that honey-makers, bees, have in our ecosystem. The Food and Agriculture Organization has stated that “It is thanks to the over 20 000 bee species and various other wild pollinators that we can produce most of the crops we eat. Pollinators are essential to food production, 75% of the world’s crops depend on them .”

Honey is also filled with antioxidants and anti-bacterial matter. Asia, Including Indonesia is home to the Asian Giant Bee, the Apis dorsata, that often lives in open hives on forest trees and help to pollinate forest tree species as well. Unfortunately, these bees are being affected by the impacts of climate change, land and forest conversion, among other factors. Because honey is known to boost our immunity, fake honey is produced in volumes across the country. This was particularly the case during the pandemic.

Let's strive to learn more where our food comes from and make responsible purchases to protect the planet we live on by purchasing safe, healthy and sustainably produced food.
