The Vidies team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) won 3rd place in the Jak-Space University (JSU) 2024 WebGIS competition organized by the Department of Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning, and Land Affairs of DKI Jakarta Province. JSU is part of the Jakarta Satu Festival 2024 with the theme “Mapping The Future.” The final competition event was held at Tavia Heritage on December 9-10, 2024, and was attended by the Head of Dinas CKTRP DKI Jakarta and the Head of BAPPEDA DKI Jakarta.
Led by Azril Rozaqi Ar Rosyid (SIG 2022) along with Yasin Manik Hawa (SIG 2022) and Mutiara Debora Saragi (PWK 2023), the team presented a project titled "A Breathing Space: Utilizing Limited Space to Green the City in Addressing Environmental Issues", using the ESRI StoryMaps platform ( ) to propose urban greening solutions through the optimization of limited spaces in Jakarta.
The Vidies team utilized remote sensing analysis techniques such as NDVI for vegetation detection and LST for surface temperature extraction in DKI Jakarta using Landsat 8 imagery. The analysis was then used to formulate solutions for urban planning science. This achievement is a testament to the real contribution of SIG students from UGM in utilizing geospatial technology to support sustainable urban planning. We hope this work inspires the development of greener and more innovative cities! 🌱🌏

On November 14, 2024, the Program Ormawa Membangun Negeri (POMN) team from the Department of Earth Technology, Vocational School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, successfully handed over the program’s outputs to the local government at the Kalurahan Ngargosari, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. These outputs include thematic maps, tourism maps, and a comprehensive map album, designed to support the management and promotion of Kalurahan Ngargosari, especially in tourism and regional planning.
In addition, the event featured a presentation of WebGIS Pariwisata, a digital innovation developed by the students to enhance tourism information and online promotion for Puncak Widosari. The platform will be managed by the Widosari Tourism Village Board to attract more visitors, while the Prima Village Board will use it to support the digital marketing of local MSME products. The event also saw the installation of tourist information boards, 3D acrylic signs, and directional signs in key locations to enhance visitor convenience and strengthen the identity of Widosari as a top tourism destination.
This program highlights the close collaboration between students, the local government, and the community, achieving key objectives such as improving local welfare, promoting knowledge transfer, developing innovative solutions, and fostering leadership in students. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), POMN supports economic growth (SDG 8), sustainable village management (SDG 11), and the use of digital technology for infrastructure development (SDG 9).
