- Introduction to Positive Discipline at SMS
On the same day, our Primary and High School teachers also took part in a Professional Development session with Ms. Desi, our Early Years Principal and a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.
What is Positive Discipline?
Positive Discipline is an approach that teaches children to become responsible, respectful, and independent through guidance, encouragement, and clear boundaries rather than punishment. It focuses on understanding the reason behind behaviour and teaching life skills for the future.
During the session, teachers explored:
• Different parenting approaches and their impact on children
• The difference between telling and asking to build responsibility
• Common discipline methods used today
• Understanding the belief behind children’s behaviour
• The 5 criteria of Positive Discipline
At SMS, we believe that a positive school environment helps children feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. Because education is not only about academics, but also about building strong character.
