This year’s focuses on ending plastic pollution — a challenge with deep human rights implications.

At the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, we work to advance the understanding that a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is essential to the full enjoyment of human rights.

Equality cannot wait; it’s time to ! 🚀💜

Through the RWI Afghanistan Programme, Afghan female scholars are pursuing postgraduate studies in Indonesia, breaking barriers and creating pathways for future generations.

But their journey isn’t just their own. It’s supported by families and entire communities who believe in the power of education. As one student’s brother shared, ‘We are very grateful that our sister was selected for this scholarship, because we understand the value of knowledge.’

Real change happens when everyone—women, men, families, and communities—stand together to push for progress. A world where every woman’s right to learn is valued and defended is possible when we work collectively, to ensure no one is left behind.

Let’s keep moving forward, together! 💜

🌏 Environmental Justice for All! 🌱

Environmental degradation isn’t just an ecological crisis—it’s a human rights crisis. Women, Indigenous peoples, and low-income communities are hit the hardest, yet their voices remain unheard.

At , RWI emphasized the need for an inclusive ASEAN Environmental Rights Declaration that:

✔ Protects marginalized communities from environmental harm
✔ Ensures transparency & accountability in environmental governance
✔ Bridges policy gaps on gender, human rights & sustainability
✔ Strengthens regional cooperation for climate action & disaster response

🌿 The ASEAN Environmental Rights Declaration is a key opportunity to set a regional standard for environmental justice. But for it to be meaningful, it must center the voices of those most affected. ✊✨

Thank you to .youth.forum for inviting RWI to co-organize this important side event along with other esteemed regional partners.

As we close the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (25 Nov-10 Dec), we reaffirm our commitment to addressing gender-based violence, particularly in Afghanistan, where women and girls face severe oppression.

Under the Taliban regime, Afghan women are increasingly marginalized, denied access to education, and systematically excluded from public and social life—all severe forms of structural GBV. This creates a crisis that threatens the country’s future and perpetuates cycles of inequality.

In 2024, we launched the RWI Afghan Women’s Scholarship, offering full scholarships to 20 Afghan women to pursue Master of Law studies in Indonesia. This initiative, managed by RWI HQ in Lund, Sweden, and the RWI Indonesia Office, underscores RWI’s commitment to women’s rights, education, and a future where women can thrive.
