Virtual Reality (VR) berkembang sangat pesat dan menjadi teknologi yang semakin populer dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Manfaatnya di bidang konstruksi mencakup aspek yang luas pada pembelajaran di Arsitektur dan Teknik Sipi untuk: desain dan pengembangan, presentasi dan komunikasi, pembelajaran dan pelatihan, hingga evaluasi dan pengujian. Pekerja konstruksi masa depan penting untuk mengenal konsep kerja VR supaya dapat mengintegrasikan pemanfaatan teknologi ini dalam proses perancangan desain dan konstruksi mereka.

Di Kuliah Umum ini akan diperkenalkan teknologi Virtual Reality (VR) untuk Perancangan Konstruksi kepada mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik oleh ibu Mutiara Cininta, ST., M.Arch, dosen Departemen Arsitektur Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta yang menggunakan teknologi VR dalam pengajaran dan penelitiannya.

“ARCHITECT BERLAGE AND THE DUTCH EAST INDIES”

This presentation is about the journey of Dutch architect H.P. Berlage (1856-1934) in the Dutch East Indies in 1923. After a short introduction on Berlage’s reputation as one of The Netherlands’ greatest architects and pioneer of modern architecture, the lecture will zoom in on the itinerary. What was Berlage’s motivation, what were his expectations, what places did he visit and which persons did he meet? He reported about this in a travelogue (five articles) in a Dutch newspaper, and made some 60 travel sketches. In 1931 he published Mijn Indische Reis (My Indies Journey). A complex and intriguing book about colonial and indigenous architecture, but also about culture and society, colonialism and independance. In my research I use four perspectives: Berlage the traveller, the architect, the thinker, the critic. In this presentation I will focus on the architectural perspective: Berlage’s observations and judgements. Was he influenced by what he encountered? Did he influence Dutch Indies architecture or even Indonesian architecture? And finally: what might be the relevance of Berlage’s ideas for architecture today?

"RECONSTRUCTING THE TEMPLE OF SOLOMON IN 18TH CENTURY GERMANY: A VIRTUAL JOURNEY THROUGH TIME & SPACE"

By Dr. Eelco Nagelsmit, PhD in History of Art and Architecture From the University of Ghent (Belgium) and Leiden University (The Netherlands)

In the early eighteenth century, the German school teacher Christoph Semler (1669-1740) created a detailed scale model of the Temple of Solomon between the 10th and 6th centuries BCE in Jerusalem, which was permanently destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. Based on descriptions and measurements from the Bible, it offered its viewers a three-dimensional treasure-trove of exegetical opportunities. During live demonstrations, they were invited to explore the links between biblical events and histories by visualizing their spatial and temporal relations. The original model was lost in the nineteenth century, but we have created a virtual augmented reality reconstruction based on textual and visual sources.

This talk will discuss the possibilities and limitations of such a reconstruction of a reconstruction, and what it might tell us about eighteenth-century epistemological procedures. How can digital AR technology potentially engage a twenty-first-century audience with historical objects and religious ideas through spatial and architectural means?
