Checking out some huge at our new dive sites at Pulau Ndaa with my new 😀 I always have a dive light with me as it’s a great way to find critters, show off the incredible colours of the coral and peek into some of the dramatic overhangs on our beautiful wall dives. This new light is a great addition to my dive gear being so light weight but still packing a powerful 3000 lumens, enough to light up any of these massive fans!

Thanks for the great photos!

POV - When your husband steals your when your back is turned… seems he liked it so much he tried to make it his own 😂 I have to admit it is a pretty handy tool to take on a nice like this one. Although the vis was pretty good it’s still a bit darker down here and less colour than in the shallows.

This is well hidden in the black coral. Its checkerboard pattern gives it camouflage and if it doesn’t move it is very hard to spot. I managed to get pretty close by sneaking up super slow. Patience pays off when it comes to and there’s nothing in the oceans we can out swim. Even a fast moving nudibranch can foil me, so I’m happy when a creature is chilled enough to allow me into its personal space.

One of my favourite creatures to find but one of the hardest to film! Meet the coral who is about 3 or 4 mm in diameter and makes his home in the holes left behind in the boulder coral by deceased tube worms. Think Christmas tree worms. Their eyes are on the end of tiny stalks which helps them to see in every direction at once and look like they are covered with stars. Their little antennae have tiny filaments on them to catch nutrients from the currents which pass by. They always look just so busy! I think they are so cute and often try to film them, but it tests even my patience! I hope you like this slightly wobbly little clip. Footage shot with the which is compact enough that I can easily mount it on top of my camera so I can get in nice and close to my subject!

Fire dart fish usually live in the mid-range depths between about 5 and 25 metres, while the decorated dart fish generally dwell deeper, starting at around 25 metres and deeper. Here I was lucky to see the two species coexisting. So nice to see the two colour variations together. Shot with the help of the which has a lovely soft light that doesn’t scare the critters away!

So much going on in this anemone! Actually it’s quite unusual to see all these other species of fish hanging out with a pair of spinecheek as they usually won’t let anyone else share their anemone. It’s pretty common to see three spot damsel fish (the black ones with white spots) in anemones with other species of anemone fish but rarely with the snooty spinecheek! The large red female does seem quite frantic though. Perhaps she feels her personal space has been invaded. Her cute little male companion is also quite agitated. Or maybe he’s just excited to have so many new friends. In any case it’s awesome to see so much life in one place!
