In international curricula like Cambridge, students are expected to analyze, evaluate, and justify their answers. This often makes students feel less confident at first because the expectations are very different from what they’re used to.

Language load
Students are not only learning English. They’re learning subjects like Science and Math in English. So the challenge is not just understanding the lesson, but also processing and translating information mentally at the same time.

Assessment style
Questions tend to be longer, more contextual, and require written explanations. Even students who understand the material can struggle during exams because they’re not yet used to expressing their thinking clearly.

Tutoring starts before the session begins. We carefully select papers which contain questions that our students might struggle with. Break the questions down to prepare clear explanations, and print the papers as a handout for our student.

This will ensure each tutoring session is structured and effective.

POV: I found out on Saturday my student has a prelim test on Thursday.

With limited time, strategy matters more than coverage.
Instead of pushing new content, I shifted the session to targeted exam practice + deep discussion.
I intentionally selected more difficult papers to expose weak areas early, so we can fix thinking patterns, not just memorize answers.
