[UNHAS DELEGATIONS FOR HARVARD NATIONAL MUN 2017 UNHAS]

We are proud to announce UNHAS MUN delegations for Harvard National Model United Nations 2017.
Continuing the tradition, this year we will send three of our members and one supervisor to Boston, Massachusetts. After going through the selection process, the delegates underwent months of intensive preparation under Mr. Bama Andika Putra as mentor and supervisor. Mr. Bama will also be accompanying the delegates to Boston in February. Under the guidance of Mr. Bama Andika Putra, our members namely Muh. Alif Andyva (International Relations 2013), Kevin Bonaparte ( Law 2014), and Muh. Rizky Hadi Eka Putra (Law 2015) will attend the annual conference in Boston, US.

We wish them the best of luck, and safe travels!

10 December - International Human Rights Day

"Human rights are not a privilege granted by the few, they are a liberty entitled to all, and human rights, by definition, include the rights of all humans, those in the dawn of life, the dusk of life, or the shadows of life." Kay Granger

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

This year, Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. Humane values are under attack.

We must reaffirm our common humanity. Wherever we are, we can make a real difference. In the street, in school, at work, in public transport; in the voting booth, on social media.

The time for this is now. “We the peoples” can take a stand for rights. And together, we can take a stand for more humanity.

It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, an LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence.

10 November - National Heroes Day
"A great nation, is a nation that honors the services of its heroes" - Ir. Soekarno

10 November, "Hari Pahlawan" is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of Indonesia's heroes towards Indonesia's Independence. The day itself also commemorates the Battle of Surabaya 1945, when Indonesian Militias fought British - Dutch troops during the Indonesian National Revolution.

24 October - United Nations Day

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.

This year's UN Day will be used to highlight concrete actions people can take to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Commemorating the International Day of Peace, 21 Sept.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September.
The day was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly and in 2001, the General Assembly voted to designate the day as a period of non-violence and ceasefire.

On 16 September 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the Secretary-General celebrated the Day in the Peace Garden at United Nations Headquarters by ringing the Peace Bell and observing a minute of silence. Women Nobel Peace Prize laureates and the United Nations Messengers of Peace were invited to participate in the ceremony. The United Nations Education Outreach Section held a global student videoconference on the same day, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also at United Nations Headquarters.
