Bahasa Indonesia hidup dalam keseharian kita. Terhampar dari komunikasi ke komunikasi. Sesekali dalam bentuk senandika. Lisan maupun tulisan.

Membicarakan bahasa Indonesia modern tentu tidak dapat dipisahkan dengan Jusuf Sjarif Badudu. Ia adalah seorang linguis atau ahli ilmu bahasa yang telah melahirkan sejumlah karya.

Selama hayatnya, ia mengajar puluhan tahun di Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) dan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Ia juga merupakan orang pertama yang meraih gelar guru besar dari Fakultas Sastra Unpad.
