How to Prepare yourself for a successful Internship interview in Bali?

As internship consultants you will be informed with valuable insights about the company before a skype, zoom, facetime or whatsapp interview will take place, so you are well-prepared.

In order to increase the chance of a successful outcome after an interview, you should always keep a number of points in mind:

1. Always read the website of the company and try to research more about the background of the company. What are the latest developments in the company, what are the activities the company focuses on, target markets, where is the company active and learn about the mission(s).

2. Learn more about the person you are going to talk to. Try to gather background information about the person who will interview you. The more you know about that person, the better it is! A personal chemistry with the person you talk to is important in an interview. Try to find common-ground in things you both share in life, your passion or in work activities you are both interested in.

3. Always ask questions! It shows you are interested and hungry to know more. Ensure questions are always relevant to anything related to your internship, i.e., Dress code, working location, procedure about the application like a timeline, working schedules & activities, decision-making processes, meeting schedules, reporting schedules and evaluations. Are you not sure about something related to the internship itself, don't hesitate to ask it during the interview, so you have clarity.

Other things like accommodation, visa, local transportation and other preparations are handled by our team, the company has appointed our organization to take care of this, avoid asking questions about to save their time. Our team will help you further with this.

4. Avoid, in the first interview, bringing up things related to holidays, additional days off or a personal planning. The reason is that it could give a wrong impression why you plan to come to Bali. For sure you will get days off and get days off, but just try to prevent bringing it up yourself as a professional intern on a first conversation.

You CAN ask about the working schedule and ask in a later conversation about this when you have a closer connection, but in the first interview we advice to avoid starting about this topic. Try to give a professional impression and express the main purpose why you want to do an internship in this particular company in Bali.

5. Tell something about yourself. Keep it short and relevant. Why are you the person that suits for the job, what skills do you have and what does your knowledge from university and personal experience bring to the company? Why have you chosen Bali? Again, only bring up things that are important to the company.

6. It is important to match expectations. Expectations should match from all 3 sides. University, the Host Company and yourself. Your university has set standards that should be explained during the interview & address your personal motivation why this is the perfect internship place for you.

7. Be polite and dress up for an interview. It is important that you look presentable during an interview. Not only verbal communication is important but also how you look. It says something about your personality.

8. Avoid conducting an interview in a noisy place. Ensure that you are in a quiet place where you can concentrate and listen carefully to the other person.

9. Be on-time and consider the time difference; coming late for an interview doesn't give a good impression. If something happens why you can't make it, inform the company upfront. This way the person can schedule other activities on the given time and re-schedule the interview call with you. Also keep in mind there is a time difference between Bali and France.

10. Make sure you have a proper internet connection. Good communication is key, advanced technology ensures that we can communicate well. To avoid any miscommunication make sure you make a 'trial video call' to a friend or us for instance, just to make sure your connection is functioning well.

Our 2 golden tips:
1. Write an email after the interview to give thanks for the time the person at the company had allocated for you. Show once more your gratitude and express your interest based on the conversation hoping for a positive outcome. If you don't like the company based on the interview, please inform the company about it as well and tell why in a delicate non-offensive way. Doing this shows you have courtesy and are a true professional.

2. Write down what has been talked about during the interview, you can't always remember every single topic after a couple of days without making notes. What questions have been asked and what points did the person bring up during the interview.
Keeping records about these things are important as similar interview questions might even return again during a later stage of your future career.

Always remember; you will never get a second chance to make a first impression!
