elearning merupakan singkatan dari Electronic Learning. Sebuah cara dimana kita mendapatkan sebuah informasi melalui media eletronik seperti TV, radio, handphone, komputer, dll. Informasinya bisa bermacam-macam, bisa itu sebuah berita, pembelajaran, pemberitahuan, dsb.
Elearning yang saya bikin disini adalah sebuah informasi yang bisa berbentuk sebagai modul, permainan ataupun video yang terbentuk dari beberapa unsur multimedia yaitu teks, suara, gambar, video dan animasi. Dengan unsur multimedia sebagai pembentuk modul pembelajaran, maka diharapkan akan mudah diserap dan dipelajari karena banyak panca indra yang berperan dalam menangkap informasi yang disampaikan.
Disamping elearning, ada juga yang disebut sebagai mLearning, yaitu singkatan dari Mobile Learning. Ini adalah sebuah cara yang lebih praktis dalam belajar karena menggunakan media Mobile Phone yang bisa dibawa kemana-mana.
Keuntungan menggunakan elearning:
1. Bisa dipelajari kapan saja selama 24 jam selama 7 hari dan dimana saja Anda berada oleh siapa saja.
2. Menghemat biaya training, yang terdiri dari trainer, akomodasi, modul cetak, sewa tempat, dll. Walaupun untuk beberapa training memang mengharuskan mendatangkan seorang trainer tetapi elearning bisa meminimalkan kebutuhan perusahaan akan sebuah training.
3. Karena bisa dipelajari kapan saja dan dimana saja maka para pegawai tidak harus secara bersamaan berada pada satu tempat di waktu yang sama sehingga menyebabkan produktifitas perusahaan berkurang.
