Bali is a fascinating island, but one too easily taken for granted. Beyond the tourist destination lies a rich, complex society with a lot to teach us about values, community, and what business can actually be for. This book grew out of ethnographic fieldwork and a genuine curiosity about the people quietly building something different. In Bali, social entrepreneurs navigate tradition and modernity, where objects and spaces around them carry meaning.
I hope it does justice to the island and the people who shared their stories with me.
The cover was created by Gus Dark, a Balinese visual artist and illustrator whose work explores public space, participation and the socio-environmental stories of a place shaped by tourism, ritual culture and rapid change. Everyday life rendered with graphic energy and quiet symbolism.
