Educational Technology Research and Development is the only scholarly journal in the field focusing entirely on research and development in educational technology.

"Pembelajaran daring tidak hanya mencakup penggunaan learning management system (LMS) untuk menyimpan materi-materi pembelajaran yang statis, namun juga untuk memfasilitasi materi-materi yang tidak hanya dinamis namun juga berorientasi pada pembelajar (learner-centered content). Untuk membuat materi yang berorientasi pembelajar, kita perlu memahami prinsip-prinsip desain antarmuka dan juga jenis-jenis materi yang sesuai untuk pembelajaran daring, seperti yang kami paparkan pada bagian awal buku ini.

Buku ini secara detail menerangkan proses yang yang perlu dilalui seorang perancang materi, baik itu seorang desainer instruksional, maupun dosen, guru, atau instruktur, untuk mengembangkan materi-materi yang berorientasi pada pembelajar. Proses pengembangan materi tersebut mencakup praproduksi, produksi, dan pascaproduksi.

Buku ini juga mengambil pembelajaran dari best practices yang diterapkan pada massive open online courses (MOOCs), khususnya yang berkaitan dengan pengemasan materi pada MOOC yang tergolong populer. Kehadiran inovasi-inovasi pembelajaran daring seperti MOOC yang didukung dengan perluasan akses jaringan Internet melalui perangkat seluler ke seluruh dunia โ€“ bahkan daerah terpencil sekalipun, menggambarkan besarnya potensi perkembangan pembelajaran daring ke depannya."
