Green Educators Green Educator Course is an immersive programme developed in 2013 by Green School Bali aimed for educators who want to learn Green School's holistic education.

In 2013, Green School Bali developed its first Educator Course (EC). These courses are for educators who are seeking to learn more about Green School's holistic, student-centered, nature-based curriculum.

1. Invite like-minded educators from around the world to learn with us and from us
2. Create an inspiring environment for attendees to collaborate with each other on unique projects, programs, teaching strategies, and resources
3. Equip attendees with a new toolbox of innovative teaching strategies and resources
4. Engage a global network of educators who are committed to student-centered, holistic Education for Sustainability. Each EC is unique in what it has to offer. Courses are facilitated by a range of GS members - including Teachers, Administration, Parents, and Students. Past courses have included activities such as:
- Interactive workshops – in and out of the classroom
- Collaboration on concrete projects
- Reflection/journaling
- Singing, dancing, performing arts
- Gardening, yoga, nature walks/hikes
- And many other memorable experiential learning opportunities

What if education could help students not only understand the world, but care for it?

Join our 5-Day Immersion Course at Green School Bali and experience a different way of learning, rooted in sustainability, regeneration, nature and real-world action.

Across five days, you’ll learn directly from Green School educators, explore nature-based and project-based learning, observe classes, take part in hands-on activities, and develop ideas you can bring back into your own teaching or practice.

Students today can find an answer in seconds.

Ask AI to explain a concept, summarise a chapter, generate ideas or solve a problem, and the information is right there.

But access to answers doesn’t necessarily mean deeper learning.

According to OECD’s PISA 2022 research, around 30% of students across OECD countries reported being distracted by digital devices in most or every mathematics lesson. UNESCO has also called for a human-centred approach to AI in education, one that protects human agency, critical thinking and meaningful learning.

So perhaps the challenge for educators isn’t competing with AI.

It’s creating learning experiences worth paying attention to.

Experiences that make learners curious enough to ask questions, confident enough to experiment, and capable of connecting what they learn to the world around them.

Because when information is everywhere, how we learn becomes even more important.

This is also something we explore through the Green Educators experience at Green School Bali. Through hands-on workshops, learning in nature, community and cultural experiences, and plenty of learning by doing, we invite participants to step into the experience themselves and discover ideas they can take back into their own context.

ARTIVISM:

What happens when art becomes a tool for change?
Last week, our Grade 4 students showcased Artivism, the culmination of their unit “A is for Art-ivism.”

Through their learning about ocean advocacy, these young changemakers collected waste from local beaches, subak, and banjar, preventing plastic from reaching the sea and transforming it into meaningful works of art.

The result? Powerful artworks that do more than capture attention. They tell stories, spark conversations, and invite us to reflect on our relationship with the natural world.

One powerful message came from Alessandra, a Grade 4 student, who shared: “In the deep, you may not SEE what you are doing, but you KNOW. Save the ocean.”

Her artwork highlighted an important reality: even the deepest parts of our oceans are affected by pollution, whether we can see it or not.

Their creations remind us that even small actions can create powerful change.

Students today are preparing for a future shaped by climate change, artificial intelligence, and increasingly complex global challenges.

Yet much of learning still happens disconnected from the systems students are trying to understand.

Research has linked nature-based learning to improved academic engagement, wellbeing, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship. Studies have also found that students who spend time learning outdoors often demonstrate stronger problem-solving skills and deeper connections to their communities.

Some lessons are best understood by experiencing them. However, not every learning experience needs to happen outdoors.

But every learner deserves opportunities to observe, question, explore, and connect learning to the world around them.

Perhaps the question isn’t where learning happens.
how we prepare students to understand and navigate the complex world they will inherit.

Education is changing everywhere, but not at the same speed.

The harsh truth?
Many schools are still preparing students for a world that no longer exists.

The World Economic Forum estimates that 65% of children entering primary school today will work in jobs that do not yet exist.

Yet many classrooms still prioritize memorization over adaptability.

Some countries are already shifting.

🇫🇮 Finland introduced phenomenon-based learning, encouraging students to explore real-world topics across subjects instead of learning everything separately.

🇸🇬 Singapore has been moving beyond exam-focused education by emphasizing creativity, wellbeing, and future readiness.

Because modern education is no longer only about delivering information.

Information is everywhere.

The real challenge now is helping young people learn how to think, adapt, collaborate, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

Maybe the future of education is not about having all the answers.But creating learners who are curious enough to keep asking better questions.

Education must move beyond memorization and into transformation.

As UNESCO reminds us, learning today must nurture not only knowledge, but also social awareness, emotional intelligence, and meaningful action. The challenges we face are interconnected: climate, community, economy, wellbeing. Each influencing the other.

This is where Green Pedagogy matters.

In a solution-based approach, students are not passive recipients of information. They become investigators, collaborators, and changemakers. They draw from lived experience, engage with real-world contexts, and develop responses that are both practical and meaningful.

Our upcoming Green Educators course is designed for educators who are ready to shift from delivering content to designing transformative learning experiences, grounded in systems thinking, action, and purpose.

If we want learners who can navigate complexity, education must reflect that complexity.
