BEST DAY EVER!! 😭 Not 1, not 2... BUT 3 MOLA MOLA IN A SINGLE DIVE!!

OUR HEARTS ARE FULL! 28 marine biologists and CORAL EXPERTS from all across Indonesia came to our restoration site!! 🪸🇮🇩

We had the privilege to host an incredible mix of top university professors, government researchers, and hands-on ocean practitioners from dive centers nationwide that were all here for the National Coral Restoration Forum and decided to come & check our Coral Restoration site! 🔬🤿

They all dived with us and were very impressed by the scale and health of our reef.

Getting to swim alongside people who dedicate their lives to saving oceans and seeing their genuine excitement as they explored our site meant everything to our team. It was a huge moment for us, and it has already sparked some amazing conversations about collaborating with new groups to scale up our restoration efforts even further across Indonesia.

A massive thank you to Dr. Tries and every single expert who dived with us! 💙

What happens when coral restoration takes place right offshore, but almost no one on land knows it’s happening? 🪸❓

The recent field study from our intern Jennifer across 4 coastal villages in East Bali revealed a big insight: unless locals are fishermen, most community members are unaware of the coral restoration work in their own backyard.

In places like Labuhan Amuk, Pengalon, Padang Bai, and Tanah Ampo, the ocean is everything—it provides livelihoods, spiritual connection, and recreation. Yet, underwater ecosystems aren't always top of mind on land. Conservation can’t work in isolation. A healthy reef supports fish stocks and fuels tourism, directly helping the community. But projects only last when locals are part of the journey.

How we’re bridging the gap:

📚 Awareness: Sharing why healthy reefs matter for local income.
🤝 Workshops: Hosting local info sessions in the villages.
🎣 Local Knowledge: Partnering with fishermen to document shifts in marine life. Marine conservation starts on land—hand-in-hand with the people who call these shores home. 💙

It usually isn't bad intentions—it's a lack of long-term monitoring.

Planting coral fragments on a grid is only step one. Without ongoing monitoring, simple issues quickly turn into total project failure:

❌️ Algae Overgrowth: Without regular checks and cleaning, algae smothers young, vulnerable corals before they can fully attach. 🌱

❌️ Disease & Predators: Outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish or coral-eating snails can wipe out a nursery if they aren't caught early. 🐌

❌️ Structural Shifts: Storms and currents move frames. Unmonitored corals get dislodged and buried in sand.

Real coral restoration doesn't happen in a single afternoon—it takes months of dedicated underwater maintenance, tracking growth rates, and keeping the nursery clean.

Planting gives corals a chance. Continuous monitoring gives them a future. 💪🏼

That’s why our team is down at our restoration site every single week—cleaning grids, tracking progress, and ensuring these corals actually survive for the long haul. 🤿✨
