The Refugee learning center (RLC) was established by refugee community in 2014. It is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political and multinational center. It has more than 110 students (age 5-16) from four different countries. Furthermore, around 40 women study English language at RLC.Thirteen volunteer female teachers teach at RLC.The purpose of RLC is to provide educational opportunities for refugee's children. It is open from Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM.

Last week, our Grade 7 and Grade 8 students and teachers had the wonderful opportunity to visit BSJ.

During the visit, our students and teachers shared stories about refugee life and introduced our school and community to BSJ students. Our students also conducted quizzes that they had prepared beforehand, which created a fun and interactive learning environment for everyone involved.

In addition, the students participated in sports activities and practical science experiments, giving them valuable learning experiences and the chance to build meaningful connections with others.

Overall, the entire day was highly productive and filled with learning opportunities for our students. They truly enjoyed the experience and returned with many happy memories and new knowledge gained from BSJ.

We sincerely thank BSJ for their warm hospitality, kindness, and continued support for our students and community.

Another Wonderful Visit from British School Jakarta

This past week, we had the pleasure of welcoming staff and students from British School Jakarta (BSJ) to our school once again. Their visit brought a wide range of engaging, educational, and enjoyable activities for our students from Grade 1 to Grade 8.

In addition to student activities, BSJ also conducted professional development workshops for our teachers, which were highly insightful and valuable. Their experienced educators shared practical strategies and knowledge that will greatly support our teaching practices.

They also organized a parent workshop, focusing on supporting children’s learning and development. This session was well received, with parents actively participating and expressing their appreciation.

Moreover, we are deeply thankful for the generous donation of laptops, iPads, and projectors, which will significantly enhance our ability to provide quality education for our students.

We sincerely appreciate BSJ’s continued collaboration, volunteer efforts, and generosity toward the refugee community. Their support makes a meaningful and lasting impact on our students, teachers, and families.

This past week, we had the privilege of saying goodbye to someone who dedicated 10 years of his life to RLC.

Sikandar Ali, former manager of RLC, departed last week for Canada. During his many years with us, he worked tirelessly for the school and the refugee community, showing great commitment, leadership, and care. His efforts have left a lasting impact on RLC and on the lives of many students and families.

The entire RLC family is both emotional and proud to witness the resettlement of one of our valued members. While we will miss his presence greatly, we are happy to see him begin this new chapter of life.

We wish Sikandar Ali a joyful start in his new home, success in every step ahead, and a future filled with happiness, peace, and prosperity.

Our students recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Model United Nations (MUN) program organized by the British School Jakarta (BSJ). This event brought together students from various schools across Jakarta, creating a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Seventeen of our senior students took part in this three-day program. Throughout the event, they engaged in meaningful discussions, conducted in-depth research, and participated in thoughtful debates while exploring solutions to pressing global issues.

We are especially grateful to BSJ for their support in helping our students prepare for this program and for consistently providing such valuable opportunities—particularly for refugee students who are often deprived of experiences like these. We look forward to participating in the BSJ MUN again next year

Our fifth batch of GED classes has officially begun. We are pleased to start our GED English and Mathematics exam preparation courses, marking another important step in supporting our students toward achieving their diplomas.

This term, we have enrolled 24 students in the English preparation class and 16 students in the Mathematics class. The interest in our GED program continues to grow, reflecting the strong determination of our community to pursue education and build brighter futures.

Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we are currently unable to accommodate more students or offer Social Studies and Science preparation classes at this time. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to providing quality instruction and supporting our enrolled students in successfully completing their GED journey.

We look forward to seeing this fifth batch progress with dedication and achieve their goals.

GED Program Orientation and Entrance Exams

On Tuesday, our GED Coordinator and Tutor, Rafat Ali, conducted an orientation session for prospective GED students. This was followed by Math and English entrance tests over the next few days.

We received applications from approximately 40 candidates for our GED program. However, due to limited resources and capacity, we were able to enroll only 10 students in this intake.

Our goal is to support all 10 enrolled students through their studies and help them successfully achieve their GED diplomas by the end of 2026. We are committed to providing focused guidance and quality instruction to ensure their success.

Staff Development Visit to British School Jakarta - a fresh start in 2026.

This past week, British School Jakarta (BSJ) generously invited our staff for a full day of professional development workshops combined with enriching and enjoyable activities.

On 10 January, our teachers had the privileg of visiting BSJ to participate in a series of workshops designed to strengthen teaching practice across subjects. These sessions included:

English: Creating a cohesive curriculum across Primary and Secondary levels
Mathematics: Strategies for increasing student engagement and building an effective math curriculum
Student Wellbeing: Understanding potential student challenges, exploring proactive support strategies, and managing exam anxiety in the classroom

In addition to the academic workshops, our staff took part in wellness and creative activities such as meditation and yoga, rock climbing, accessory making with beads, and watercolor painting. The day concluded with a memorable ice-skating and bowling experience followed by dinner together, allowing time for connection, reflection, and team bonding.

We are deeply grateful to British School Jakarta for their generosity, hospitality, and commitment to supporting our educators. Opportunities like this empower our teachers, strengthen our community, and ultimately enhance the learning experience for our students.
