Founded on September 1, 1950, its first form was not that of a school but it was a four year Analytical Chemistry Course initiated by Balai Penelitian Kimia and headed by Herman Busser to fulfill the need of Chemical Analyst in research and the industrial sector. The course consisted of a two year study in school which concluded in an Analyst Examination Part I, followed by a two year apprenticesh
ip in research institutions or industry laboratory. After the two year apprentices the students returned to school to take their Final Judicial and Practice Examination that would earn them an Analyst Certificate. as headmaster, its curricula mainly adopted the preceding course curricula. Another big change took place in the year 1961, apart from no longer being under the supervision of Balai Penelitian Kimia (the School's supervision was transferred to PNPR Nupiksa Yasa) there was a major change in the curricula from two year study in school to three year study and one year apprenticeship after which they earn a (high school) diploma. Since June 23, 1966 SAK became SAKMA, Sekolah Analis Kimia Menengah Atas (Analytical Chemistry High School), the curricula changed slightly from three years in school and one year apprenticeship to three and a half years in school and six months on job training. Finally on June 24, 1985 SAKMA changed its name into SMAKBO or Sekolah Menengah Analis Kimia Bogor (Bogor High School of Chemical Analyst), one of the finest schools in the country. As shown later in this profile, the magnitude of keen Junior High students that enrolls to this school and the never ending line of companies requesting SMAKBO's graduates every year. Since 2009, SMAKBO is led by Dra. Hadiati Agustine.
