This is a fabulous and legendary Balinese female dancer, Ni Ketut NEPA !!! She has been for years a maestro of BERKO, a sacred and rare dance from Jembrana, West Bali, combining bamboo orchestra and dance.

Still alive but unfortunately very poor in old age, and dwelling in a small bamboo house in Pendem Village, Jembrana

Back in the colonial era, around 1925, they were very famous. She's often performed around the villages, and at Balinese palaces. During the Japanese occupation ( 1942-1945) Nepa and her husband were sometimes invited by the Japanese government.

Balinese dance is an ancient dance tradition that is part of the religious and artistic expression among the Balinese people of Bali island, Indonesia. Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive.
