Salam, English Learners! Mari kita lanjutkan sedikit ulasan kita mengenai TOEFL. Sebagaimana telah kita ketahui, ada 2 bentuk TOEFL yang tersedia, Paper-based dan Internet-based. Kedua bentuk ini memiliki perbedaan yang sangat mencolok, dan tentu saja, dengan demikian, dibutuhkan persiapan yang berbeda p**a guna meraih skor maksimal untuk tes ini. Paper-based TOEFL atau PBT memiliki tiga bagian ujian, listening comprehension, structure and written expression (Grammar) , dan reading comprehension. Writing atau TWE (Test of Written English) ditawarkan terpisah. Bagian listening dan reading comprehension masing-masing memiliki total 50 jumlah soal pilihan ganda ABCD. sedangkan Grammar memiliki total 40 soal yang harus diselesaikan dalam waktu 25 menit. Total waktu tes untuk format PBT kurang lebih antara 2 - 2,5 jam.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) adalah salah satu bentuk tes bahasa Inggris yang paling populer di dunia. Tes ini bertujuan mengevaluasi kemampuan bahasa Inggris akademik seseorang. Sistem tes ini memiliki dua bentuk yang masih berlaku hingga sekarang, yaitu Paper-based TOEFL dan Internet-Based TOEFL. Paper-Based TOEFL atau lebih lazim dikenal dengan PBT adalah tes teknik pelaksanaannya masih melibatkan kertas komputer. Sedangkan Internet-Based TOEFL aka IBT teknisnya dilakukan secara online di pusat test tertentu yang memiliki fasilitas internet yang memadai. Saat ini belum ada test center di Banda Aceh yang menyediakan IBT TOEFL. Yang terdekat ada di Medan. Kedua jenis test ini juga memiliki perbedaan yang cukup signifikan dari beberapa aspek. Dari sisi aspek skill yang diuji terdapat perbedaan yang mencolok. PBT TOEFL memiliki 3 aspek yang diuji yaitu Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression (Grammar), dan Reading Comprehension. Semua soal disajikan dalam bentuk pilihan ganda ABCD. Skill writing atau Test of Written English (TWE) ditawarkan terpisah dalam paket ini, tergantung dari permintaan calon peserta ujian. Biaya PBT TOEFL sebesar Rp. 400.000,-. (Tidak termasuk TWE). Sedangkan IBT TOEFL yang biayanya sekitar USD. 180 atau berkisar diatas Rp. 2jt-an. Berbeda dengan PBT, IBTmenguji 4 keterampilan dasar bahasa yaitu Listening, Reading, Speaking, dan Writing. Format Listening dan Reading pada dasarnya adalah pilihan ganda, namun pola pilihannya bervariasi, tidak hanya dalam bentuk ABCD saja. Untuk Speaking, peserta tes harus menjawab pertanyaan yang diberikan dengan merekamnya secara online. Dan untuk Writing, peserta tes menjawab perintah soal dengan mengetiknya pada Keyboard komputer secara online.

The first time I phoned you, you could have told me that the cat was on the roof, the next time that the cat had fallen off the roof and wasn’t feeling too well, and so on.'
