Bamboo U We are an educational enterprise that has grown out of the center of the world’s bamboo building movement in Bali, Indonesia.

The world needs 1 billion new homes to address the housing crisis. But we can’t keep relying on concrete and steel to build them all.

So, what if part of the solution is actually bamboo?

Bamboo has the potential to be affordable, resilient, and sustainable. The next challenge is figuring out how we can build with it at scale, while making it easy to replicate.

Luis Felipe Lopez from Base Bahay joins us to explore how bamboo can help tackle this urgent global problem.

And now, we’re putting the idea into practice. During our upcoming 11 Day Bamboo Building and Design Course, we’ll be building an affordable bamboo house based on our housing competition’s winning design.

Learning where to click is one thing. Designing a structure that actually works is another.

In our Digital Design Course, you’ll go beyond the tools and learn how materials, forces, and geometry come together in bamboo structures. Then you’ll put it into practice on your own project.

With 7 weekly live sessions, you can ask questions, get feedback, and keep refining your work throughout the course.

By the end of the 7-week course, you’ll have a complete bamboo project ready to be built.

Our Digital Design Course is made for anyone starting from ground zero. You don’t need to have any experience with digital design software. We’ll walk you through the tools, the thinking behind them, and how to use them to create a bamboo project of your own.

Can a bamboo house survive a typhoon?

It can, when bamboo is part of a properly engineered building system.

Developed by Base Bahay Foundation (Base Bahay Foundation, Inc. ), the Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology (CBFT) is tested and accredited by the Accreditation of InnovativeTechnologies for Housing (AITECH), which approves the use of alternative technologies in housing systems.

It combines bamboo framing with cement-based infill to create a structural system designed for safe, affordable and resilient housing.

This October, our 11 Day Bamboo Building & Design Course participants will help build the winning bamboo housing design by Jean Renaud from the ground up using this technology, in collaboration with BASE.
