Award-winning design starts with an idea. Yours already has one.

Every architect worth remembering starts with a strong idea pulled from nature. What sets the best apart, the ones who get published, get recognised, get remembered, is knowing how to actually build it.

That’s the bridge we teach: how a natural form becomes a real, buildable structure, using the same digital tools and process behind our own bamboo dome, the Arc, the Kul Kul Farm Playground (inspired by a single sea creature, the nudibranch), and the Kul Kul Farm Pod.

Free. Live. Three sessions, so wherever you are, one of them works:
Thu, Sep 17, 3:00 PM Bali — Americas, Asia, Australia
Fri, Sep 18, 9:00 AM Bali — Europe, Africa, Asia
Mon, Sep 21, 7:00 PM Bali — Europe, Africa, Asia, parts of Americas

Jim joined our workshop in Taiwan, which, funnily enough, only made him want to come to our campus in Bali even more to see and feel big bamboo architecture for himself.

One of the main reasons to fly all the way to Bali for our 11-Day Bamboo Design & Build Course is the hands-on building. But getting to experience the craftsmanship and the wider bamboo architecture ecosystem around the island is something participants like Jim carry home and cherish, too.

From Green School to Bambu Indah and IBUKU, you get to experience bamboo architecture up close, not just through a screen.

Thanks for bringing your energy to the July cohort, Jim! We hope to see you around again soon, wherever bamboo finds you.

Want to see how bamboo can teach you to look beyond what you already know? Join us this August at our campus in Bali.

Nature already has the answers. Digital tools help us build them in bamboo.

But translating natural forms into architecture can be difficult to do by hand. The Digital Design Course gives you the tools and techniques to turn inspiration from nature into digital designs and, ultimately, bamboo structures.

Designed for anyone who wants to start digitally designing their ideas, the course includes 7 comprehensive modules, weekly live sessions with bamboo digital design experts, and dedicated Q&A time to help you dive deeper into your learning.

Lessons start from September 28 to November 13, 2026.

When we think about durable building materials, bamboo might not be the first thing that comes to mind.

Because bamboo is a natural material, many people assume it is more vulnerable to insects, fungi and decay than materials like concrete or steel.

But is that really the case?

Sebastian Kaminski is an Associate Structural Engineer in Arup London’s Specialist Technology & Research Team. For over a decade, he has worked on structural and seismic engineering projects across Latin America, Africa and Asia, with a focus on sustainable, resilient and affordable schools and housing. He specializes in the structural use of bamboo, particularly its durability, seismic design and role in appropriate housing.

In our latest article, Sebastian explores what actually makes bamboo durable and how the right approach to preservation can make it a viable material for affordable and resilient housing.

Read Sebastian’s full article on our website at bamboou.com/blog/ to explore his findings in more detail. Link in our bio.

We gave our last course participants disposable cameras to capture whatever they found beautiful during the 11 days they spent together, designing, building, and forging new connections and memories.

The films were developed recently, and looking through them feels like going back to that transformational week, where passions came together to make something great.

We can’t wait to welcome our August cohort very soon now.

Spots are limited and filling up. Register through the link in our bio or through here: https://www.bamboou.com/11-day-course.

See you at campus!

"Nothing in nature is static. Everything is in motion, whether or not we feel it or understand it."
— Dr. Negar Kalantar

Motion, as Negar sees it, is everywhere. Aging is motion. Our bodies are in constant change. Even architecture, which is so full of movement during construction, with all those machines and all that energy, becomes almost completely static the moment it's finished. Only doors and windows move, and this has been the same for centuries.

But with advances in computation, fabrication, and smarter materials, we can move toward design that is dynamic and transformable.

And there are two reasons that excites us. The emotional one: when something responds to you, you connect with it, you care for it more. And the practical one: motion can shape how a building breathes, how it meets its environment, how indoor and outdoor flow into one another.

What could architecture become if we let it move?

This is the thinking Negar brought to our 11 Day Bamboo Building & Design Course in July. Co-Director of the Digital Craft Lab at California College of the Arts, her work explores how movement can become an integral part of the spaces we design, creating architecture that responds and transforms rather than simply stands still. She was joined by Prof. Korbinian Enzinger, Associate Professor of Digital Built Environment at Kyushu University.

For Dustin, one of the most valuable parts of the course was learning how bamboo behaves, not just in theory, but through hands-on experimentation.

From exploring the properties of the material and understanding its structural capabilities, to testing ideas through scale models and seeing them come to life at full scale, every stage offered new insights into designing with bamboo.

The course also introduced participants to digital fabrication with Negar Kalantar, opening up new ways of thinking about material innovation while staying grounded in craftsmanship.

But beyond the technical skills, Dustin found something equally meaningful: a community of architects, designers, engineers, and makers from around the world, all connected by a shared curiosity to explore regenerative design together.

Thank you, Dustin, for sharing your experience with us.

Join our next 11-Day Bamboo Design & Build Course this August and learn by making alongside an international community of designers and builders. Reserve your place through the link in our bio.

“How can technology help us to make complex shapes from bamboo while creating no waste?”

Explore the concept of linear motion with Prof. Negar Kalantar , Co-Director of the Digital Craft Lab .digital.craft.lab at California College of the Arts, and Prof. Korbinian Enzinger from Department of Digital Built Environment at Kyushu University in Japan.

Joao came to Bali with a vision: to build a home that respected the island’s landscape, climate, and way of living.

Inspired by the ocean where he spends his days surfing, he imagined a home shaped like a shell, cozy, protective, and deeply connected to nature. During the 11-Day Bamboo Design & Build Course at , he transformed that idea into his very first scale model, taking the first step toward making his dream a reality.

After the course, Joao partnered with Bamboo Pure Bali to bring his concept to life. Beginning with an in-depth consultation, the team developed two additional scale models, refining the structure while staying true to his original vision. The result is Bamboo Uluwatu, a home where organic design meets thoughtful engineering and exceptional bamboo craftsmanship.

Today, the home stays naturally cool, insulated from heat and outside noise while allowing fresh air to flow freely throughout the space. It’s a living example of what can happen when a personal vision is paired with the right knowledge and expertise.

Have a dream of building with bamboo? Start by learning the craft in our 11-Day Bamboo Design & Build Course at , then work with Bamboo Pure Bali to turn your vision into a home that lasts.
