Landscape and Conservation Ecology group This group was founded by Péter Batáry after receiving the prestigious Lendület (=Momentum) grant provided by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Our group works as a part of Centre for Ecological Research ( Kutatóközpont).

🇬🇧 Publication: Kata co-authored the paper „Climate-driven in-situ trait variation in an annual ruderal grass across Europe” in Annals of Botany. The authors showed in their large-scale study that climate is the main driver of the reproductive timing and seed characteristics in Hordeum murinum, with little influence of soil conditions. July 2026

🇭🇺 Publikáció: Kata társszerzőségével jelent meg a „Climate-driven in-situ trait variation in an annual ruderal grass across Europe” a Annals of Botany c. folyóiratban. A szerzők nagyléptékű vizsgálatukban kimutatták, hogy az éghajlat a Hordeum murinum szaporodásának és magjellemzőinek fő meghatározója, míg a talajviszonyok csak csekély hatást gyakorolnak ezekre a tulajdonságokra. 2026. július

🇬🇧 Publication: Péter co-authored a paper published in Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment with the title "Synergistic effects of flower strips and landscape complexity buffer
arthropods against warming and drought – A meta-analysis". We showed that flower strips are an effective conservation tool for beetle and spider populations and thus possibly sustain pest-control services. June 2026

🇭🇺 Publikáció: Péter társszerzőségével jelent meg a Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment folyóiratban a „Synergistic effects of flower strips and landscape complexity buffer arthropods against warming and drought – A meta-analysis” című metaanalízis. A kutatás kimutatta, hogy a szántókat szegélyező, vetett "virágos sávok" hatékony természetvédelmi eszköznek bizonyulnak a bogár- és pókpopulációk támogatásában, és ezáltal hozzájárulhatnak az ezen ragadozó csoportok által kifejtett, mezőgazdasági kártevőkre irányuló biokontroll hatás fenntartásához. 2026. június

The results showed that seed storage in seed banks can support multi-year habitat restoration strategies, helping to optimize seeding success under variable climatic conditions. June 2026

🇬🇧 Publication: Kata co-authored the paper „Extreme drought facilitates shift to non-native C4 perennial grass dominance in a temperate grassland in Central Europe” in Biological Invasions. The authors showed that Sporobolus cryptandrus can rapidly become dominant in natural grasslands, and that extreme climatic events can accelerate its invasion. June 2026

🇭🇺 Publikáció: Kata társszerzője volt az „Extreme drought facilitates shift to non-native C4 perennial grass dominance in a temperate grassland in Central Europe” című, a Biological Invasions folyóiratban megjelent cikknek. A szerzők kimutatták, hogy a Sporobolus cryptandrus gyorsan dominánssá válhat a természetes gyepekben, és hogy a szélsőséges éghajlati események felgyorsíthatják invázióját. 2026. június
