Last week's Mead-Bateson love story is not yet over! Meet the fruit of their relationship, Mary Catherine Bateson. Does it still surprise you that she is also an anthropologist like her parents?
Mary's birth was treated by her parents as fieldwork, documenting her birth on film and continuing to her early childhood. She soon became an anthropologist and was also known as a prolific author. She wrote groundbreaking books on women's lives, one of which is "Composing a Life" where such words are written.
Indeed, what is life but a piece of art that we create, on a daily basis!
Wanna add spice on your life by creating it the anthropologist way? Then come, join us!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! 😉
Last year was a roller coaster trip. When we were approaching the end of the pandemic-stricken 2020, perhaps many of us were hoping that in 2021, we will gradually go back to normal. But our hopes for a Covid-19 free year were crushed, and we were met by surprise by new variants. Up to this day we all ask: When will this pandemic stop?
A change in perspective will somehow allay our sadness, our fear, and our worries. Almost two years in the pandemic, have we ever noticed that the pandemic allowed us to discover our hidden skills and talents? Have we ever thought that we spent more time with our loved ones? Have we ever realized that we learned to appreciate and value more our relationships with others and the world around us? The list goes on, we just have to think positively!
We're now welcoming 2022! No one knows what this year has in store for us; we can only look forward to new things with optimism. As for us anthropologists, this year is nothing but a 365-day academic journey with culture! (And another year to read, to write, and to do our fieldwork 😬)
The Department of Cultural and Visual Anthropology of the University of Miskolc wishes you a healthy and prosperous new year! 2022, here we come!

It's "MEET YOUR ANTHROPOLOGIST FRIDAY!"
The discipline of Anthropology draws a lot from the knowledge handed down to us by those people who have pioneered the field. Having led the modern-day anthropology to where it is now, they indeed deserve to be remembered by us who are following their footsteps.
Meet Ruth Benedict, an American anthropologist whose theories had a profound influence on anthropology in general. Much is to be known about this woman, and we will let you know her from time to time. Today, Benedict is teaching us that we're living in a world of differences, and it is the task of anthropology to make sure that these differences are acknowledged, with no single culture or group of people superior over others.
Imagine a world of peace, where no one is discriminated on the basis of race, skin color, religion, gender or culture. A world where everyone respects others' differences from them. Anthropology can help us achieve that!
Join us, be an anthropologist!

Here's your Monday dose of ANTHRO FACTS!
Perhaps the strength of Anthropology lies in its study of our everyday lives. It studies those things that are of huge value, but we often think of as too ordinary that we overlook them. But you might ask: "What are those things?" You'll be surprised but it could be the food that you eat (and how you cook it), your own language, the differences in how we relate to other people, and even the reason why you go here in Facebook checking your feed. 😎 Have you ever thought that these things could be topics of studies? Probably not, and you deserve to learn more!
Yes, Anthropology could be that fun! And if you think you've got the "curiosity" that it takes to explore interesting topics in anthropology, then send us a message and be one of our students!
