🌎 BioTreatED at ENVIRONTEC 2026!

The BioTreated project will be represented by the Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety (MATE AKI) of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) at ENVIRONTEC powered by ÖKOINDUSTRIA, one of the leading environmental industry events in the region.

The event provides an excellent opportunity to bring together research, innovation and environmental practice.

Within the BioTreatED project, we are developing bio-based approaches to remove hormone-active and endocrine-disrupting compounds from irrigation water, contributing to more sustainable water management and safer agricultural practices.

🌍 BioTreatED at IAH 2026 – World Groundwater Congress

BioTreatED was presented at the 53rd World Groundwater Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH 2026) in Budapest, 14–18 September 2026.

Alper Elçi, Professor at Dokuz Eylül University and Principal Investigator in the BioTreatED project, presented preliminary results on modelling the impact of bio-treated manure application on groundwater quality.

The presentation provided an excellent opportunity to share BioTreatED’s progress with the international groundwater community and strengthen scientific exchange on groundwater protection and sustainable agricultural practices.

💧 BioTreatED at the KÁN University Days! 🦠
From 25–27 September 2026, the BioTreated project was presented at the KÁN University Days at the MATE Kaposvár Campus.
At the MATE Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety stand, visitors could explore our project goals and research methods through an interactive demonstration.
How can microorganisms help remove hormonally active contaminants? And how can biological solutions contribute to safer agricultural water resources?
BioTreatED is exploring these questions – developing biological solutions for safer water and more sustainable agriculture.

💧 A BioTreatED a KÁN Egyetemi Napokon! 🦠

Szeptember 25–27. között a KÁN Egyetemi Napokon, a MATE Kaposvári Campusán mutatkozott be ismét a BioTreatED projekt.
A MATE Akvakultúra és Környezetbiztonsági Intézetének standján interaktív bemutatóval hoztuk közelebb a látogatókhoz projektünk céljait és kutatási módszereit.
Hogyan segíthetnek a mikroorganizmusok a hormonhatású szennyezők eltávolításában? Milyen biológiai módszerekkel tehetjük biztonságosabbá a mezőgazdasági vízkészleteket?
A BioTreatED ezekre a kérdésekre keresi a választ – biológiai megoldásokkal a biztonságosabb vízért és a fenntartható mezőgazdaságért.

Munkatársaink kéthetes kutatási mobilitáson vettek részt a lengyelországi IUNG - Állami Talajtani és Növénytermesztési Kutatóintézetben, Pulawyban. Az intézet 3 különböző tanszékén tettek látogatást, mely során több, egymáshoz kapcsolódó kutatási területbe kaptak betekintést. A mobilitás során laboratóriumi és analitikai készségeiket, valamint a modern mikrobiológiai és kémiai vizsgálati módszerekkel kapcsolatos ismereteiket bővítették. Munkatársaink mobilitása a BioTreatED projekt (Water4All2023-334) keretein belül valósult meg.

Our colleagues participated in a two-week research mobility program at the IUNG—Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation State Reserch Centre in Pulawy, Poland. They visited three different departments at the institute, during which they gained insight into several interrelated areas of research. During the mobility, they expanded their laboratory and analytical skills, as well as their knowledge of modern microbiological and chemical testing methods. Our colleagues’ mobility took place within the framework of the BioTreatED project (Water4All2023-334).

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Zsolt Csenki-Bakos on his appointment as Full Professor!

🎓 Egyetemi tanári kinevezés az Akvakultúra és Környezetbiztonsági Intézetben!

Örömmel adjuk hírül, hogy Dr. Csenki-Bakos Zsoltot, a MATE Akvakultúra és Környezetbiztonsági Intézet Környezettoxikológia Tanszékének tanszékvezető-helyettesét, 2026. szeptember 1-jei hatállyal egyetemi tanárrá nevezte ki Magyarország Köztársasági Elnöke.

🔬 Tudományos munkássága kiemelkedő a vízi ökotoxikológia, a környezeti szennyezők és endokrin rendszert károsító anyagok vizsgálata, valamint a zebradánió-alapú toxikológiai módszerek fejlesztése terén.

🎓 Professorial appointment at the Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety!

We are pleased to announce that Dr Zsolt Csenki-Bakos, Deputy Head of the Department of Environmental Toxicology at the MATE Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety, has been appointed Full Professor by the President of Hungary, effective 1 September 2026.

🔬 His outstanding scientific work focuses on aquatic ecotoxicology, environmental contaminants and endocrine-disrupting chemicals, with particular emphasis on zebrafish-based toxicological methods and biomarker development.

We warmly congratulate Professor Csenki-Bakos on this prestigious appointment and wish him continued success in his teaching and research!

🌍 BioTreatED at EUROBIOTECH 2026! 🧬

The BioTreatED project, implemented within the Water4All Partnership, was presented at the 10th Central European Congress of Life Sciences – EUROBIOTECH 2026, held in Kraków on 2–3 July 2026.

🔬 What we presented:
BioTreatED’s approach to developing bio-based solutions for monitoring and mitigating endocrine disruption risks in irrigation water associated with slurry separation technologies.

🤝 Why it matters:
The congress provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, meet experts, and build new connections across environmental biotechnology, pollutant analysis and agricultural applications.

🌱 Our goal:
Advancing sustainable, biology-based approaches to safer water management and strengthening international collaboration within Water4All.
