People often use these words as opposites, but they are not.
When something is flammable, it means that it can be easily set on fire.
When something is inflammable, it means that it can be easily set on fire.
The actual antonym (the word which means the opposite) is non-flammable.

There are a few other examples of French loan words in the English language, like
- fiancé (a man who is engaged) vs fiancée (a woman who is engaged)
or
