Call for applications to the English-Language DEbate Competition for High School Students

🔔 The Institute of English and American Studies, University of Debrecen, the U.S. Embassy Budapest, and the American Corners in Hungary are happy to announce the ninth national, English-language debate competition for high school students.

ℹ️ Students can apply in teams of three under the supervision of a teacher by submitting a 10- to 15-minute-long creative, argumentative video project on the topic specified below with research-based evidence and arguments. The video projects will be assessed by a panel of experts, who will evaluate the strength of the arguments, the creativity involved in their presentation, the quality of language used, as well as the team members’ cooperation and presentation skills. Make sure every team member has a role on screen.

ℹ️ The top teams submitting the most creative and best-argued video projects will get the chance to prove their debating skills in person using the Karl Popper format. In-person semi-finals will take place in January/February 2027, with the in-person grand finals planned for the spring of 2027.

ℹ️ Similarly to previous years, students can compete for valuable prizes offered by the organizers and our sponsors.

🔸 This year’s topic for the video projects:
Possible Drivers of U.S.–Hungary Relations
What really connects the United States and Hungary and what can one real example reveal about their relationship?
For your video project, choose one case study that catches your interest: a specific agreement, project, dispute, or other example connected to U.S.-Hungary cooperation in, for example, trade, energy, or culture. Explore what happened, why it matters, and what it can tell us about the wider relationship between the two countries.

Zentai-Galló Nilla, 2026-os Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship ösztöndíjasunk most tért vissza Magyarországra és megosztotta velünk az európai és amerikai tinédzsereknek szóló, vezetés-, polgári szerepvállalás- és transzatlanti kapcsolatok-fókuszú program szakmai és személyes hatását:

"Ezen a nyáron az a megtiszteltetés ért, hogy megtapasztalhattam az Amerikai Egyesült Államokat a Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship programon keresztül az Indiana állambeli Purdue Egyetemen, valamint Washington D.C.-ben. Önmagában is felejthetetlen élmény volt találkozni a 33 másik résztvevővel a világ minden tájáról, de néhány pillanat különösen emlékezetes maradt. Az egyik egy Jogalkotói meghallgatás-szimuláció volt, ahol lehetőségem volt bírókkal és bírósági elnökökkel találkozni az állam egész területéről, valamint első kézből tanulni az amerikai jogi rendszerről. Egy másik fénypont a Chicago-i utunk volt, ami hamar az egyik kedvenc városommá vált. Ezeken az élményeken túl, ami ezt az utazást valóban különlegessé t***e, az a hihetetlen közösség, amit építettünk. Az órák érdekesek és inspirálóak voltak, és a szakemberek, akikkel lehetőségem nyílt találkozni, amíg a közösségi projektemen dolgoztam, még tartalmasabbá tették az élményt.”

Nilla Zentai-Galló, 2026 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellow, just returned to Hungary and had this to share about the professional and personal impact of this program for European and American teens focused on leadership, civic engagement, and transatlantic ties:

"This summer, I had the honor of experiencing the United States through the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship at Purdue University in Indiana and in Washington, DC. Meeting all 33 fellows from around the world was an unforgettable experience in itself, but a few moments stood out in particular. One was participating in a Mock Legislative Hearing, where we had the opportunity to meet judges and justices from across the state and gain firsthand insight into the American legal system. Another highlight was our trip to Chicago, which quickly became one of my favorite cities. Beyond these experiences, what has made this journey truly special is the incredible community we have built. The classes have been both engaging and inspiring, and the professionals I have had the chance to meet while developing my community project have made the experience even more meaningful."

🇺🇸 Jelentkezz a Georgia Rotary Student Program GRSP 2027/28-as ösztöndíjpályázatára!

Ez egy fantasztikus lehetőség 18–24 év közötti fiatalok számára, hogy egy tanévet töltsenek Georgia állam egyik egyetemén, miközben egy nemzetközi közösség tagjaivá válnak.

A GRSP nem csupán egy ösztöndíj, hanem egy különleges kulturális program, amelynek célja a nemzetközi megértés, a barátságok építése és a Rotary értékeinek szem előtt tartása.

🎓 Az ösztöndíj tartalmazza:
✅ tandíjat és kötelező kurzusdíjakat (legfeljebb 12 kredit)
✅ kollégiumi elhelyezést
✅ étkezést
✅ félévente 500 USD hozzájárulást az egészségbiztosítás költségeihez

🌎 Mi teszi különlegessé a GRSP-t?

A GRSP ösztöndíjasai a világ számos országából érkeznek, és bár Georgia állam különböző egyetemein tanulnak, havonta közös diákhétvégéken találkoznak. Ezeket a programokat a georgia-i Rotary klubok szervezik, így a résztvevők nemcsak az amerikai kultúrát ismerhetik meg, hanem egymás országát, hagyományait és kultúráját is. A közös hétvégék során életre szóló nemzetközi barátságok születnek.

Jelentkezési feltételek

A pályázó:
✔️ 2027. augusztus 1-jén már betöltötte a 18. életévét, de még nem töltötte be a 25.-et.
✔️ Korábban legfeljebb egy év és egy szemeszter időtartamban tanult az Egyesült Államokban.
✔️ Nem házas és nem jegyes.
✔️ Nem amerikai vagy kettős amerikai állampolgár.
✔️ A GRSP keretében undergraduate szintű kurzusokat vállal.
✔️ Rotary klub ajánlólevelével rendelkezik.
