UCW BlueBridge launches the new academic year

The UNESCO Chair in Water Conflict Management (UCW) held its first student meeting of the 2026/27 academic year, welcoming new first-year students and outlining the Chair’s plans for the months ahead.

The meeting also marked the launch of UCW BlueBridge, our student platform connecting generations and bringing young perspectives into water diplomacy, research and conflict prevention.

With climate change, increasing water demand and prolonged hydrological extremes raising the risk of water-related tensions, the Chair has developed an Action Plan for 2026–2028. It focuses on research and risk assessment, early warning, water diplomacy, communication, capacity building and policy support, with students actively involved in its implementation.

Our next opportunity to continue the conversation will be the first Student Science Club (SSC) of the 2026/27 academic year, organised by the UNESCO Chair in Water Conflict Management.

Our guest, Gerta Lubonja, visiting Budapest within the Ludovika Scholar Program, will open the event with a presentation entitled:
“Sectoral Approach in National Water Policy Reforms in Albania: The Lessons Learned”

The opening lecture will be followed by a presentation by a first-year student of the International Water Governance and Water Diplomacy MA Programme on opportunities for water cooperation in Central Asia.

The event will be held in hybrid format and participation is subject to registration.
Registration / online participation is possible on Ludevent.

The Student Science Club provides an informal space outside the classroom where students, lecturers and invited experts can discuss current water-related challenges and exchange perspectives. Everyone interested in water policy, water diplomacy and water conflict management is warmly welcome to join us.

The Erasmus Days international programme is back again this year! Join the Erasmus Days, and celebrate Erasmus+ and Europe with us!

This year, between 13-18 October, a series of events will be organised in the frame of Erasmus Days, where Erasmus+ project promoters can showcase their achievements and raise awareness of their projects.

The Erasmus Student Network and the International Office will host the Ludovika-UPS Erasmus Day on 15 October 2026, with interactive games and lots of fun for Erasmus students.

A very good start to Map of Power II: a closed working session with Bruno Maçães on World Building and World Politics 🌍🗺️

We discussed how power today is also about shaping the technological, economic and political environment in which decisions are made, a theme closely connected to Bruno’s work.

A thought-provoking opening to a day focused on Europe’s changing balance of power.

Map of Power II 🇭🇺🇪🇺🇺🇸

The second edition of Map of Power brought together experts, diplomats, academics and students for a full day of discussions on Europe’s changing political and strategic landscape.

The programme covered the future of the transatlantic relationship, challenges facing Western Europe, the role of Central and Eastern Europe, competitiveness, and possible scenarios for Europe in 2035.

An important part of the conference was the Next Generation Policy Forum, where the best essays from this year’s student competition were presented and discussed before the jury.

The day also included a closed working breakfast with Bruno Maçães, providing an additional space for a more focused exchange of views.

An important part of Map of Power II was the Student Essay Competition and the Next Generation Policy Forum.

This year, our students were invited to reassess the Stern Review twenty years later and look at climate change through a security lens.

Congratulations to William Rebolledo on 1st place, Okpala Emmanuel Chinonyerem on 2nd place, and Emiliia Fedun & Rostyslav Fedun on 3rd place 👏

Very proud of our students, not only for the quality of their essays, but also for how confidently they presented and defended their ideas in front of the jury.

This September, we’ll welcome Dr. Mandeep Mahendru as a new Fellow of the Ludovika Public Diplomacy Hub 🌍

During her time at Ludovika, she will contribute to our discussions on economics, financial well-being and what success should look like beyond GDP. With more than two decades of international academic experience, she brings a strong research background and a fresh perspective to these questions.
