Tudománybolt? És mit lehet ott venni? A Gdańskban július elején megrendezett Living Knowledge konferencia tanulsága, hogy az egyetem feladata nem a társadalomhoz való leereszkedés, hanem annak felismerése, hogy az egyetem soha nem állt a társadalom fölött.

: “I’m tired of solidarity.” A blunt statement like that can actually prove very helpful in sparking debate and encouraging reflection on the role of and empathy in community engagement.

💭Our workshop of the same name, prepared together with seven lecturers, certainly intrigued the audience and sparked a lively discussion of experiences and ideas.

❓Based on our own observations and the interviews we conducted with some of our lecturer partners, we presented the issue of student resistance to engaging with community-related issues such as marginalised groups, inequality and social disadvantage, or the environment.

💡We asked our fellow science shop practitioners and lecturers to brainstorm ideas and give us recommendations on how science shops can support lecturers in improving .

👉How can we recognise and respond to cases of reluctance—or even outright hostility—when it comes to solidarity with, or empathy for, particular groups or communities?

👉How can we ensure that solidarity is practised at every level and across relationships between students, lecturers, universities, and community partners?

👉What is the role of in fostering solidarity and empathy in educational settings, across disciplines?

: How do we balance presenting and facilitating collaboratively at a conference — while also making space to attend sessions, listen, join workshops, and engage in discussions led by others?

☝ That is clearly the big question for us throughout the Living Knowledge Conference.

Here is what Corvinus colleagues contributed today:

🧩 Dóra Diófási shared a narrative account of her community-engaged PhD research in Lebanon, including excerpts from the reflective weekly check-ins she and her supervisor, Matolay Reka, held during her fieldwork.

🧩 In the -project session, we presented a set of stories about how three universities — including us — approached a new area, , through . The session was chaired by Claire McDonnell, with stories shared by her on TU Dublin, as well as by Emma McKenna and Calum McGeown on Queen’s University Belfast, and Marta Frigyik and Matolay Reka from Corvinus Science Shop.

🧩 Judit Gaspar and Mária Dobos (ELTE) facilitated a workshop on collaborative writing, drawing on their experiences with high school students’ future visions.

And we still have a workshop to offer tomorrow... 😊

: Countless hugs on a busy day. It feels wonderful to be immersed in the Living Knowledge community again. 🫶

👉 On the first day of the LK conference, we were fully in motion:

🧩 clipping, photographing, and discussing the posters of our student colleague Vera Shmalko, presenting her Science Shop-related insights;

🧩 showcasing the award-winning research poster from our TDK section by Liza Almási, together with her supervisor Révész Éva;

🧩 facilitating a workshop on the evaluation of impact of science shop support on lecturers, with Catherine Bates, Emma McKenna, Zoryana Pshyk, and Sara Vantournhout. Grateful for the active contribution of the participants in generating ideas.

🧩 chairing a storytelling session with three authentic stories of working for and with nature and communities. 🌱

: Our participation at the Living Knowledge conference was launched this
morning with our student colleauge’s poster session. 🤩

What does the mutual learning experience between student colleagues and the
Corvinus Science Shop look like? - this is the question Vera Shmalko explored,
sparking insightful conversations with participants from across the international
community of the Living Knowledge Network.

In Vera’s own words: “As a practitioner from the student side, I had a great opportunity
to learn how events related to sustainability are organized. In fact, many senior
colleagues at the conference got inspired by the very idea of a TA position at Science
Shop, so this definitely works both ways. Sustainability starts with interest and care!”

: Heading to Gdańsk, Poland – a 15-hour train ride to the Living Knowledge Conference. Lovely to travel across all the countries north of Hungary to the Baltic see. Excited to get there with the whole team, joined by lecturers and students travelling by various means of transport – mostly train and car, with a few flying. 🛤️

⚽️🏓🏸Járulj hozzá a kisgyermekes családokat támogató MESEÖSVÉNY - Kalandjátékos családi naphoz! A rendezvény 10:00 és 18:00 óra között zajlik a Vasúttörténeti Parkban. A programon az egyetemisták részvételére a játékok levezetésében, elmagyarázásában, a
feladatok kiosztásában, a családokkal közös játékban számítanak a szervezők.

A helyszínen az önkéntesek számára egyenpólót, gyümölcsöt, csokit, pogácsát, vizet biztosítanak. Minden
eszközt, játékot, mesés állomást a szervezők hoznak, csak a lebonyolításban kell közreműködni. A
