WHEN she was young, Dr.Jane Cox’s dad told her something very powerful, which she has always remembered: "Knowledge owned is pointless, knowledge shared is priceless."
Born in South Africa, and currently based in England, Cox was fortunate to grow up with a father who was a public speaker, and witnessed the impact he had on lives and businesses.
“I was very inspired by the example he set for me. As an adult, I use every opportunity to speak and reach out to as many people as possible,
“I know that I have had the privilege of learning and experiencing so many valuable lessons, and if we can share the learning and knowledge with others, that is how we make real positive change in our world,” said Cox.
Today, Cox herself has been a public speaker for 23 years, and she believes most of her business success comes from being good at speaking, which got her noticed.
“I truly love speaking. It keeps me on my toes and keeps me on top of my profession, because I always need to be current with my knowledge and advice, and enables me to meet so many amazing people I would never have the opportunity to meet without public speaking."
Cox has a number of qualifications which she has achieved over the years, including PhD in Psychology, Natural Medicine, Metaphysics, as well as a degree in business management, specialising in Inter-cultural Communication.
“There are so many talented and capable people in the world around us, but how do you even know they are there if you never hear from them? To me, it is a great way to stand out in your chosen profession," she said.
Cox was speaking at Andy Harrington’s Public Speaking University (PSU) programme held in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week, where about 600 participants learnt The Jet Set Speaker System on how to stand, speak, and sell on stage effectively.
In this Q&A, Cox talks about the Stress Free S.Y.S.T.E.M. - the acronym representing six keywords on how to speak better in public, which she shared with participants during the 3-day programme.
