The Doctoral Schools of Corvinus University of Budapest held a 3MT (Three-Minute Thesis) competition for PhD students on 5 March, where doctoral candidates had just three minutes to present their research topics in a clear and engaging way.
In an extremely close contest, the competition was won by our colleague Melinda Manczinger. Her research focuses on spatio-temporal modelling of fire risk using machine learning and remote sensing. Congratulations to her and to her supervisor, Tibor Kovács! 🎉

Our institute was proud to participate in the annual network event of ERCIS (European Research Center for Information Systems), held this year in beautiful St. Gallen, Switzerland 🇨🇭. Over three dynamic days, researchers and academic leaders from across the globe gathered to share ideas, present new initiatives, and build collaboration across institutional boundaries.
We had the privilege to organise and lead a dedicated workshop for the Process Science Cluster, where we explored future opportunities for collaboration in both research and education.
The overall programme featured a rich mix of academic content: from discussions on technical debt, affective BPM, and GenAI in organisations, to an interactive workshop on “IS Impact” and sessions on data science, prompt engineering, and ESG strategies.
🤝 It is a pleasure and a privilege to be part of this vibrant network—strengthening ties and creating new pathways for research and education collaboration.
🙏 Special thanks to the organisers (Armin Stein, Katrin Bergener, Jan vom Brocke and Jörg Becker) for the excellent programme and to the University of St.Gallen and Robert Winter for hosting us with such warm hospitality.

Sok szeretettel gratulálunk Lengyel Balázsnak, aki március 15 alkalmából megkapta a Magyar Érdemrend Lovagkereszt polgári tagozat kitüntetést. 👏

On March 15, 2025, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation awarded economist Dr. Balázs Lengyel, research professor at the Department of Network Science at Corvinus University and head of the Agglomeration and Social Networks Research Group at the Institute of Economics of the HUN-REN Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, with the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civilian Division) in recognition of his contributions to advancing national interests and enriching universal human values.
Balázs Lengyel considers himself primarily a researcher in economic geography, working at the intersection of network science.
A defining experience in his career was his one-year fellowship at MIT between 2016 and 2017. During this period, he secured a five-year research project worth HUF 150 million, which enabled him to establish his own research group, ANET, at the Institute of Economics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). This group primarily conducts research in economics and economic geography.
At Corvinus University, he is a research professor at the Department of Network Science within the Institute of Data Analytics and Information Systems and the head of the ANETI Lab at the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS). In 2022, he received the Corvinus Research Excellence Award, primarily for his publications on the geographical spread of iWiW and the relationship between the iWiW network and income inequalities.
We sincerely congratulate him on this prestigious recognition!

👏The Corvinus team secured 3rd place at the CaseIT 2025 International MIS Case Competition in Vancouver. The team, Sapphire Consulting- comprising Janka Tiszlavicz, Tímea Kiss, Máté Czifra, and Máté Czifra - are all 3rd-year BSc students and can be seen in the picture on the right.
✍️ The competition consisted of two rounds, each with a separate case. The Corvinus team won their division in the first round, advanced to the semifinals and finals with the second case, and ultimately finished in third place.
- The first case focused on Ednius, a Simon Fraser University spinoff startup that provides AI-powered feedback and grading support for university professors in short open-answer questions.
- The second case tackled the digital transformation of the local public transport company TransLink, focusing on data collection, digital twins, and AI solutions.
The competition was won by the team of the University of Manchester.
👨🎓 The students were part of the Cases on Business-IT Management course, a Digital Business specialisation course within the Business and Management programme, and a core elective for the Business Informatics and Data Science programmes. After winning our local competition, the team earned the right to represent Corvinus at CaseIT, where we have been invited since 2012. Rooted in the local competition, we also send a team to the CoMIS competition, to Minneapolis every year, in similar business-IT topic. The Corvinus preparation team included Krisztián Varga, Márta Aranyossy, and Peter Feher, supported by former international case competition alumni: Barnabas Gardai, Marton Nyikos and Gergely Pota.
Congratulations! 🥂🎉
