Today, I found a poem by Ervin Aranyosi that I think is suitable for language learners. We are going to look at four verses, starting with verse #1.
I also added a rough English translation (trying to stick to the exact wording). A list of words will follow in a separate post..
Please pay attention to how the verb to be is used in Hungarian. Verse #1 has this verb twice. Can you tell me where? (Hint: one is invisible.)

Let's look at the conjugation of 'lenni' through 2 examples. In the first table, you find the (Present, Past and Future) conjugations of 'to be in the park'.
The second table contains the conjugations of 'to be a policeman/woman'. Note that in the later VAN is not used.

To be or not to be ...
'Lenni' is an irregular verb (of course :) ) in Hungarian. You'll find the present tense conjugations in the first column, the past tense in the second column, and the future tense in the third column.
Mind you that 'van' and 'vannak' are in many cases not used!

This might be a little advanced for a lot of you but let's get to it.
Have you ever wondered what is the "12 points" that everybody talks about every year when March 15 comes around (the day of the Revolution of 1818-19)?
A 12 pont = 12 points
1. Kivánjuk a’ sajtó szabadságát, censura eltörlését =
We demand the freedom of the press, the abolition of censorship.
Notes: kívánni - to wish, to ask for something
2. Felelős miniszteriumot Buda-Pesten =
Independent Hungarian government in Buda-Pest.
Notes: felelős - accountable
3. Évenkinti országgyülést Pesten =
Annual national assembly in Pest. (i.e. the abolition of the old feudal parliament which based on the feudal estates).
Notes:
4. Törvény előtti egyenlőséget polgári és vallási tekintetben. = Civil and religious equality before the law.
5. Nemzeti őrsereg. = National army.
6. Közös teherviselés. = Universal and equal taxation.
Notes: teher - load, weight, tax
7. Urbéri viszonyok megszüntetése. = The abolition of the Aviticum.
8. Esküdtszék, képviselet egyenlőség alapján. = Juries and courts based on an equal legal representation.
9. Nemzeti Bank. = A national bank.
10. A’ katonaság esküdjék meg az alkotmányra, magyar katonáinkat ne vigyék külföldre, a’ külföldieket vigyék el tőlünk. = The army must take an oath on the Constitution, send our soldiers home and take foreign soldiers away.
11. A’ politikai statusfoglyok szabadon bocsáttassanak. = Setting free of the political prisoners.
12. Unio. = Union (with Transylvania).
