Here are the definitions we were working on during our meeting in Budapest - some of you asked us to make them public, so here they are :)
Transgender– An umbrella term to describe someone who is somewhere on a continuum between male and female and presenting a female gender identity some or all of the time.
GENDER Describes the perceived or projected masculinity or femininity of a person. A person’s gender is complex, encompassing countless characteristics of appearance, speech, movement and other factors not solely limited to biological s*x. The term is frequently used as a synonym for s*x.
Coming out (of the closet) Disclosing one’s gender identity, or s*xual orientation to others – usually a slow steady process of revealing the secret to people.
Homophobia The irrational fear or hatred of homos*xuals, homos*xuality, or any behavior or belief that does not conform to rigid s*x role stereotypes.
LGBT The acronym for le***an, gay, bi and trans.
GAY Generally refers to a males who are attracted to males in a romantic, erotic and/or emotional sense. Also used as a gerneric term for the entire LGBT community and especially when referring to “Gay Pride” events.
LE***AN Term used to describe female-identified people attracted romantically, erotically, and/or emotionally to other female-identified people. The term is derived from the name of the Greek island of Le**os.
Transs*xual(M-F and F-M)– a man or woman who knows for a fact that they do not belong to the gender they where born with and undergoes SRS(s*x reassignment surgery, ge***al and/or physical surgery) to physically look and live as the opposite gender they were supposed to be at birth.
Metros*xual First used in 1994 by British journalist Mark Simpson, who coined the term to refer to an urban, heteros*xual male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.
Heteros*xual(M/F)/Straight – a man and woman who prefers to be with the opposite s*x , s*xually too.
S*XUAL ORIENTATION The desire for intimate emotional and/or s*xual relationships with people of the same gender/s*x, another gender/s*x, or multiple genders/s*xes.
TRANSVESTITE/TV Usually someone ascribed male at birth but who comfortably presents both male and female gender identities. They often are out in public as a woman but their male and female social lives may be entirely separate and they may not allow people to know their two identities.
BIOLOGICAL S*X This is what you’re given at birth based on medical factors, including your hormones, chromosomes, and ge***als. Most people are assigned male or female, and this is what’s put on their birth certificates.
FEMINISM advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men.
S*XISM the belief that the members of one s*x are less intelligent, able, skilful, etc. than the members of the other s*x, especially that women are less able than men.
Bis*xual A person emotionally, physically, and/or s*xually attracted to males/men and females/women. This attraction does not have to be equally split between genders and there may be a preference for one gender over others.
POLIGAMY Having more than one wife.
