“We have a proverb in Haiti”, “‘Sak vid pa kanpe’, which means an empty sack cannot stand up. By this we mean that when your stomach is empty you are not able to do anything. I have worked at this school since I was a young boy, and i was myself a student here, Samuel Bastien says, beside seeing the kids before in their classroom for hours with no professors, another thing that pain me the most is watching many coming to school everyday without eating anything and have to wait till the evening when their mother come back home to eat something. But it is not just the food that is important; it is also the health of the school children.

Now with the help of the GrandiOrg we are able to provide a better salary and reliable for the professors, witch have made a big difference in their commitment and dedication as a result our students grade are more better than before. Now we also have a Canteen (KANTIN) meal program, where all the students and professors can have a hot-meal everyday. The effects of the program can already be seen at the school, students are more likely to come to school every days, and children and parents alike are happy for the daily hot meal received.

Many thanks to the GRANDI of Canada and friends of ECS for their support in the effort to provide quality education to our 532 students enrolled at the Ecole Communautaire de Santo .

Today is à wonderful day and my heart is full of joy to stand in front our the gate to welcome our students back to school. It’s à miracle from my God he shown us again that he has seen our struggles to keep the door of this school open and keep educating the future of our community” Violette Bastien , the co-founder of ECS, since 1993 Ecole Communautaire de Santo was the first public school in the Santo area not run by the government not private where all the children’s could go with our paying. After many years of struggles to keep the school running able to pay professors, discouragement of false promises.
Now our 530 enrolled students can come to school this year, and we are very happy to see smiling our dedicated professors as they are walking into their classrooms. It also make us really happy in the administrative staff knowing that we will be able to pay them on time thanks to the help of Jason Atkins and Brenda Atkins, whom are doing tremendous work empowering young Haitians by providing jobs and supporting many kisd while also getting involved on helping hundreds of kids to be able to stay in classrooms like our ECS, This year we have been fortunate to receive à donation of $12,000 US dollars that would allow us to enrolled even more students make our facility more hygienic and pay our professors.
