Bright Horizons - International British School

Bright Horizons - International British School Bright Horizons offers a developmental curriculum in line with the UK National Curriculum enriched with the International Primary Curriculum.

IBSZ Bright Horizons offers a developmental curriculum in line with the UK National Curriculum. It is structured and balanced to ensure the children cover a range of subjects, with strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. Subject areas include English Language, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Art and Craft, Music, Physical Education, Health Education and Information and Communication Te

chnology. The IBSZ uses the International Primary Curriculum which is an internationally-minded, thematic, cross-curricular, rigorous teaching structure for children growing up in the 21st century. It is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for every subject, for personal learning and for international mindedness. The IPC is now the curriculum choice of international and national schools in over 1,500 schools in 80 countries around the world. It nurtures a love of learning and encourages the necessary key stills and personal qualities. With the IPC, teachers enjoy the freedom it gives them to be more creative whilst still providing a rigorous and organised resource for learning. Children love the variety of activities, the excitement of being in greater control of their own learning and the opportunity to learn in so many different ways. Teachers need to provide stimulating activities to build up pupil confidence and harness their natural curiosity. Children thereby achieve high levels of knowledge, skills and understanding while enjoying the learning process. Children are offered many experiences to develop their interest in reading with fluency, accuracy, understanding and enjoyment. The development of handwriting skills forms an important part of Language and Literacy. In Mathematics and Science, the aim is to develop a knowledge and understanding of the role of these subjects in everyday life. Children are encouraged to relate their Mathematics and Science work to other areas of the curriculum and the skills and attitudes acquired are important components of cross-curricular topic work. In general, primary children work mainly with one class teacher although certain subjects, such as Music and P.E. and Art are studied with specialist teachers. At IBSZ each day starts with the Assembly that provides opportunities to share pupil’s successes and talk about the world in which we live.

This morning was the first fully formal assembly with two important topics. Year 5 assisted Ms Kovačević and explained why literacy matters, how many people in the world still aren't literate, as well as why it is important for our health, culture, joy and understanding of the world. It also helps us grow a strong voice in the community. Tomorrow is World Literacy Day, so do honour this superpower of being literate. Then it was time to learn about personal goals and growth mindset. For this half-term the personal goal set for us all is to be CURIOUS. A perfect goal to start the new year! Learning more about ourselves and the world around us, exploring and asking questions - perfect positive curiosity! Have a great week!

Happy new year! Yes, we know this sounds funny, but in the world of education, we tend to live our lives around the school year!

Therefore, it is absolutely impossible to tell you how excited we all felt yesterday to start the new school year - 2026-2027! A funny day to start the school year on - Tuesday, as both pupils and staff mentioned, so in our good old tradition, we still all met at the gym in the morning for the briefest possible Assembly, just to see each other, say hi to all the friends we missed, see how many new faces are joining us this year, and just to feel that vibrant buzz of school energy!

Our new Year 1 was welcomed by their predecessors, with an appropriate welcome song and sighs of empathy ('We know how you feel - we've been there!'), hugs from parents and carers, and then our new generation of Year 1 entered school premises and took a walk around the school!

In years 2-7, class buddies were assigned to new pupils to help them through orientation, school supplies placed into cubbies and lockers, new labels placed on our notebook covers and, best of all - summer adventures shared with smiles, a bit of nostalgia for the summer past, yet passing through corridors and classrooms you could also hear lines such as:

'I missed you so much!'
'Wow, our new classroom is so interesting!'
'You've grown taller than the teacher!'
'I love first days of school!'
'This is such a fun day!'

When the day ended and parents and carers came to pick their children up, some of our more experienced pupils lingered on the playground, as always, not wanting to leave the place where they will be spending so much time in the following months. There was still so much to share!

As we embrace new challenges and new opportunities, we welcome all the curious minds joining Bright Horizons and wish everyone a great new school year!

Where has the week gone already? This summer school week has been very creative indeed.

The theme is all about famous people, so the children explored a lot with their lead teachers Ms Hollo and Ms Lisica. From learning about space with Neil Armstrong, art with Van Gogh and Georgia O'Keefe, music with Prokofiev, sports with various athletes ('Simone Biles is phenomenal', the children said), to books with Dr. Seuss and many more.

Today's visit to the Museum of Illusions was so much fun and so deliciously challenging! And tomorrow is already the last day! What a great way to spend a week at the end of summer!

And another week of our fun summer school is over! This week was about PROFESSIONS. Throughout the week, children took part in a variety of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and inspire a love of learning. As they explored different professions through play and hands-on experiences, they developed their confidence, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while having lots of fun.
For their field trip, they explored the world of some of the most amazing and most dangerous professions nowadays - firefighters! They went to a Fire Station and it was incredibly exciting! A huge thank you to these consumate professionals who risk their lives to save others!

It's time to take a short break from summer school now. We will resume with a week dedicated to FAMOUS PEOPLE (past and present - inventors, artists, scientists, athletes etc.) from 17-21 August! Feel free to contact us at [email protected] for more information!

Our sports summer school week 2 is almost over and we have had such an interesting time exploring the topic of SPORTS. Apart from playing sports on the playground every morning, the children learnt about mindfulness, the importance of brain fitness, unusual sports props (what is the special umbrella for?), explored the world of science in their STEM acitivities (creating their parachute for a soft egg drop), created their own Olympic torch in Art, made marble mazes to explore movement, practised their award acceptance speeches in English, learnt about various kinds of measuring in maths, competed in brain games and sports games...

Next week's topic are PROFESSIONS! The children will learn about different jobs, explore a variety of topics and skills and above all - have fun!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day for our Zagreb Summer School pupils to go on a morning field trip. They visited the abundant greenery of Zagreb's Botanical Garden, enjoying the natural shade and perfect colours of various plants. After this they had a workshop in the Museum of Unifinished Art. This week's topic of summer school is Unwind Your Mind, and this was the perfect place for them all to try out various creative arts & crafts. In line with a conversation we had with them the other day, being creative and actually making something with your own hands gives a person a confidence boost that lasts a long time. That feeling of accomplishing something always stays with us. That's why Unwind Your Mind was such a successful theme this week!

Next week our theme is SPORTS, and we will be active in all subjects!

⛱We just can't believe it! Our continental summer school here in Zagreb is almost over! The theme for this week was Unwind Your Mind, so we practised mindfulness and yoga, did a lot of arts & crafts, learnt about coding using practical materials, researched nature, imagined new sea creatures, talked about the world, ideas, emotions and inventions... It is so much fun to look at the world from another perspective and to create and learn through play! So much can be learned through play and children don't even feel like it's learning:)!

🤩Today they are on a field trip and even the weather has decided to be gentler and provide them with a few clouds and a gentle breeze!

⚽️🏓🤿🏋️‍♀️🧘‍♀️Next week a new summer school group starts with a new theme: SPORTS!⚽️🏓🤿🏋️‍♀️🧘‍♀️Feel free to contact us for more information!
