What is Bright Zone? For those of you who don't know, it's a pupil-lead online newsletter Bright Horizons started a few years ago, at the kind initiative of one of our parents. It is a collection of articles, interviews and reports written by our pupils, coordinated by Ms Kovačević, our English teacher and librarian. In the meetings and the Bright Zone Google classroom is where they exchange ideas, and they can get advice and guidance from their teachers and coordinator. This is a wonderful writing experience for the children and also a life skill to see how many different steps have to be taken to get a project running and operational.

You can read and 'like'(♥ ) their stories at the Bright Zone website (our latest story is here: https://www.brightzone.info/post/y3-and-the-medvedgrad-adventures). Seeing as Bright Zone has been around for a few years now, you can also visit some of our previous articles to see the recent history of our school.

This morning Ms Radić informed us about World Environment Day, speaking to the children about saving our planet, keeping it clean, enjoying and nurturing biodiversity. We heard Jane Goodall's talk about our planet Earth and every little thing we can do to change the situation for the better. We ended with a fun charity challenge - a limbo dance by pupils and teachers. If you would like to join the challenge, use the hashtag .

Wonderful news!

Our Year 4 and their form teacher Ms Rodriguez have been extremely busy this year. Apart from their entrepreneurial project a few weeks ago, they have also been working on a cultural project. Here is a bit more about their project from their form teacher...

In our Topic lessons we have been learning about culture and traditions. For this reason, last Friday we had a special online meeting with children from Ecuador.

It was a very enriching experience for our students, as they had the opportunity to learn about another culture, share ideas, and connect with children from a different country. We are very happy to provide these meaningful experiences at school.

In addition to this, after doing an inventory of donations collected during their project Little Entrepreneurs, the Year 4 students decided to donate part of their money to two different organisations through the GoFundMe website. Their parents have been informed of these donations.

The children are incredibly excited and proud to be helping others around the world. This has been a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about kindness, empathy, and the importance of supporting those in need.

Our founder and principal, Ms Tišma, was invited to talk about the vision of Bright Horizons and the approach to children and teaching implemented in our school. She was a special guest at The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences University of Zagreb to Ms Ines Hraste, PhD, lecturer at the pedagogy department. (We were privileged to have Ms Hraste on our staff for several years, so this is such a wonderful continuation of our collaboration!)

Year 3 and Ms Šarina informed us about so many facts about bees this morning at the Assembly that it's mind-blowing! Bees have two stomachs - one for food, one for nectar; they also have five eyes and two pairs of wings! Year 3 also taught us how we can help save bees by taking care of our gardens, planting more flowers and using less chemicals!

They also reminded us to celebrate the 100th birthday of the great Sir David Attenborough! What an extraordinary person!

What a sweet way to end this week! Even grammar can be sweet!

This week Year 6 were learning about the imperatives in their Croatian A lessons with Ms Manestar! One of the pupils then surprised everyone with a sweet cake and they made this cute video using the imperatives! In case you are not sure of the instructions they are giving, it's this:
1. pogledaj - look,
2. uzmi-take,
3. odmotaj - unwrap,
4. (po)kušaj -try,
5. pomiriši - smell,
6. zagrizi - bite,
7. pojedi - eat,
8. prožvači - chew,
9. i uživaj - and enjoy it!
Great work, Year 6! Ms Manestar's lessons must be really wonderful! School can be a fun place, too! Sweet, sweet memories!

In the constant noise and content overload of the modern world, we thought we'd share with you one of our favourite methods of helping children focus, relax, be conscious of the moment, each other and their senses - mindfulness.

Our Year 3 and their form teacher, Ms Šarina (one of our resident mindfulness experts) recently used a wonderful day to practice mindfulness outside in the fresh air. Perhaps this makes your Friday more joyful, too.

That day, Year 3 actually had their Topic lesson about movement - a sign of being alive, so they spent that lesson outside with mindful moving and taking a moment to be a present, using Yoga prezel cards. After a fun and energising mindfulness reset like this, Year 3 was able to go through their day without any problems. Have a lovely reset in the nature this weekend!

As a member of the COBIS community, Bright Horizons is proud to participate in their ongoing efforts to improve education in international British schools around the world. Our principal Ms Tišma and our counselor Ms Đurić have recently participated in the annual COBIS conference in London, named Listen, Learn, Lead. The goal of this event was to remind everyone how important it is to listen in order to be able to learn and then successfully lead. These visits strengthen the bonds and collaboration of international schools, provide our lead team with insights into the latest developments in the world of education and open up new possibilities for our pupils and the school community.
