💙🌍U susret Međunarodnom danu čistog zraka za plavo nebo, koji se svake godine obilježava 7. rujna, podsjećamo da čist zrak nije samo pitanje okoliša, već i zdravlja, znanja i zajedničkog djelovanja.

Institut za antropologiju sudjeluje u dvama projektima financiranima u okviru programa Horizon Europe, EDIAQI i NextAIRE, kojima je cilj znanjem, suradnjom i inovacijama doprinijeti zdravijoj budućnosti.

Od istraživanja kvalitete zraka u zatvorenim prostorima do primjene umjetne inteligencije i suvremenih tehnologija u praćenju onečišćenja – ova dva projekta povezuje zajednički cilj: stvaranje zdravijeg i otpornijeg društva u kojem svatko ima pravo na čist zrak.

🌍💙Ahead of the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, celebrated annually on 7th of September, we are reminded that clean air is not only an environmental issue, but also a matter of health, knowledge and collective action.

The Institute for Anthropological Research participates in two projects funded under the Horizon Europe programme, EDIAQI and NextAIRE, which aim to contribute to a healthier future through knowledge, collaboration and innovation.

From researching indoor air quality to applying artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in pollution monitoring, these two projects share a common goal: creating a healthier and more resilient society in which everyone has the right to clean air.

Studentice antropologije s Odsjeka za etnologiju i kulturnu antropologiju Filozofskog fakulteta trenutno rade u laboratoriju Instituta na svojim diplomskim radovima.

Diplomski rad tako postaje više od obaveze – prilika za stjecanje iskustva i razvijanje istraživačkih vještina!

🎓 Learning Beyond the Classroom – Anthropology in Practice!

Anthropology students from the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are gaining hands-on experience in the Institute’s laboratory while working on their master’s theses.

Master's thesis is more than just a requirement – it is an opportunity to gain practical experience, develop research skills, and take a step closer to completing their own research. 🔍📚

🎙️ EAA 2026 – Reconstructing Clothing, Ornamentation, and the Senses in Prehistory 🧵 📿👗

Dr. sc. Barbara Cvitkušić sudjelovala je na 32. godišnjem kongresu Europskog udruženja arheologa (EAA 2026) „Resonant Pasts“ u Ateni. S prof. Emanuelom Cristiani (Sapienza University of Rome) organizirala je sekciju #242 „Reconstructing Clothing, Ornamentation, and the Senses in Prehistory“.
Sudjelovala je i u izlaganjima „Multiproxy Microscopic and Functional Approaches to Perishable Bodily Technologies: Evidence from Shell Tools“ (B. Cvitkušić, E. Cristiani, D. Vujević) te „Dressed for Burial?… The Epigravettian Burial of Romito 9 (Italy)“ (E. Cristiani, B. Cvitkušić, D. Lo Vetro, F. Martini).
Sudjelovanje na kongresu i doprinos istraživanju Romito 9 podržani su projektom BioAntroPoP Instituta za antropologiju, financiranim sredstvima Europske unije – NextGenerationEU.

Dr Barbara Cvitkušić participated in the 32nd Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA 2026), “Resonant Pasts,” in Athens. Together with Prof. Emanuela Cristiani (Sapienza University of Rome), she organised Session #242, “Reconstructing Clothing, Ornamentation, and the Senses in Prehistory”.

Razmjena na Sveučilištu u Kopenhagenu 🇩🇰

Dr. sc. Mario Lovrić proveo je dvotjednu razmjenu na Sveučilištu u Kopenhagenu, od 6. do 18. kolovoza 2026.

Predavanje o našim laboratorijima, kapacitetima u bioinformatici i multiomici te aktualnim projektima održao je kolegama s COPSAC-a te istraživačkim timovima prof. Mortena Arendta Rasmussena i prof. Zorane Jovanović Andersen sa Sveučilišta u Kopenhagenu.
Između ostalog, na sastancima su razmatrana moguća područja suradnje i planiranje zajedničkih projektnih prijava u nadolazećem razdoblju.

Veliko hvala svim domaćinima na izdvojenom vremenu i podijeljenom znanju, a posebno zahvaljujemo Mortenu Arendtu Rasmussenu na treningu o vođenju projekata i diseminaciji, održanom u sklopu našeg projekta INANTRO_Connect. 🔬🧬

Secondment at the University of Copenhagen 🇩🇰

Dr Mario Lovrić spent a two-week secondment at the University of Copenhagen, from 6 to 18 August 2026.

He presented our laboratory capabilities, multi-omics and bioinformatics capacity, and ongoing projects to colleagues at COPSAC, as well as to the research teams led by Prof. Morten Arendt Rasmussen and Prof. Zorana Jovanovic Andersen at the University of Copenhagen. Among other topics, the meetings focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration and planning joint project proposals in the coming period.

A huge thank you to all our hosts for their time and shared knowledge, with a special thanks to Morten Arendt Rasmussen for delivering a training session on project management and dissemination as part of our INANTRO_Connect project! 🔬🧬

📱 Digitalni urođenici: društvene mreže, tjelesna aktivnost i BMI zagrebačkih adolescenata

Na EAA 2026, Vanda Pribačić i suradnici s Instituta za antropologiju predstavili su rezultate istraživanja provedenog u sklopu projekta BiCePs Nutrition o korištenju društvenih mreža, tjelesnoj aktivnosti i BMI-u zagrebačkih adolescenata.
🔎 Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat i WhatsApp bile su najčešće korištene platforme. Iako adolescenti procjenjuju da društvene mreže utječu na njihove misli, osjećaje i doživljaj sebe, povezanost korištenja društvenih mreža s tjelesnom aktivnošću i BMI-em bila je slaba.
💡 Rezultati pružaju uvid u digitalni život i zdravlje današnjih adolescenata.

📱 Digital Natives: Social Media, Physical Activity and BMI in Zagreb Adolescents

At EAA 2026, Vanda Pribačić and colleagues from the Institute for Anthropological Research presented findings from the BiCePs Nutrition project on social media use, physical activity, and BMI among Zagreb adolescents.
🔎 Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and WhatsApp were the most frequently used platforms. Although adolescents perceived social media as influencing their thoughts, feelings, and self-perception, associations between social media use, physical activity, and BMI were weak.
💡 The findings offer insight into the digital lives and health of today’s adolescents.

🌿 Stres, duh i tijelo: Istraživanje zdravlja adolescenata u zagrebačkim srednjim školama
Kako su stres, duhovno zdravlje i stupanj uhranjenosti povezani tijekom adolescencije?
Na 24. kongresu Europske antropološke asocijacije (EAA) 2026., Nives Fuchs s Instituta za antropologiju u Zagrebu predstavila je rezultate istraživanja provedenog na 500 zagrebačkih srednjoškolaca u sklopu projekta BiCePs Nutrition.
🔎 Rezultati upućuju na to da je duhovno zdravlje dosljednije povezano s povoljnijom tjelesnom kompozicijom nego percipirani stres, dok se spol pokazao važnim čimbenikom u razumijevanju povezanosti stresa i udjela tjelesne masti.
💡 Istraživanje naglašava važnost pristupa koji nadilazi BMI te objedinjuje psihološke, duhovne i pokazatelje tjelesne kompozicije u istraživanju zdravlja adolescenata.

🌿 Stress, Spirit, and Shape: Exploring Adolescent Health in Zagreb High Schools
How are stress, spiritual health, and nutritional status interconnected during adolescence?
At the 24th European Anthropological Association (EAA) Congress 2026, Nives Fuchs from the Institute for Anthropological Research in Zagreb presented findings from a study of 500 Zagreb high-school students, conducted as part of the BiCePs Nutrition project.
🔎 The results suggest that spiritual health was more consistently associated with healthier body composition than perceived stress, while s*x emerged as an important factor in understanding the stress–body fat relationship.
💡 The study highlights the value of looking beyond BMI and combining psychological, spiritual, and body-composition measures in adolescent health research.

Osnivanje Europske antropološke asocijacije
🌍 Europska antropološka asocijacija (EAA) službeno je osnovana u Zagrebu 7. listopada 1976. godine, čime je stvorena važna platforma za suradnju europskih antropologa.
🎓 Prvi kongres EAA-e održan je u Zagrebu od 1. do 3. rujna 1977. Georges Olivier (Francuska) izabran je za prvog predsjednika, a među potpredsjednicima bili su Hubert Mayer, Derek Roberts, Napoleon Wolanski i Johan Huizinga.

The Founding of the European Anthropological Association
🌍 The European Anthropological Association (EAA) was formally founded in Zagreb on 7 October 1976. Its first Congress was held there from 1–3 September 1977, bringing together anthropologists from across Europe.
🎓 Georges Olivier (France) was elected the first President, with Hubert Mayer, Derek Roberts, Napoleon Wolanski, and Jan Huizinga as Vice-Presidents. Brunetto Chiarelli became General Secretary and Charles Susanne Treasurer.

Doktorandice Instituta za antropologiju Anja Bošnjaković i Nina Karlović dobitnice su STSM grantova u okviru COST Action CA24162 – AdResCanCER, čiji je Chair dr. sc. Luka Bočkor, također djelatnik Instituta za antropologiju, temeljem zajednički osmišljenih i prijavljenih istraživačkih projekata.

STSM će provesti u Sjevernoj Makedoniji kod prof. dr. Riste Stojanova, gdje će raditi na komplementarnim pristupima obradi lipidomičkih/metabolomičkih podataka – od njihove harmonizacije i računalne obrade do integracije rezultata s javno dostupnim metaboličkim i lipidnim bazama podataka.

Čestitamo svim dobitnicima STSM grantova i želimo im puno uspjeha u provedbi njihovih istraživačkih aktivnosti!
