Early this week, our Director-General met with Elena Mamani, Executive Director of Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) in Albania, marking a significant step toward our joint efforts to preserve cultural heritage in the region.

Elena Mamani, at the helm of CHwB, has overseen restoration projects and conservation training programmes for students and young professionals, along with trainings on traditional techniques and materials for craftspeople.

The meeting aimed to solidify a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the organizations that outlines joint initiatives, including regional courses on conservation of built heritage in Eastern Europe and regional training programmes on Disaster Risk Management of Built Heritage, in addition to translating ICCROM resources into Albanian. Our aim is to also develop case studies on good practices in built heritage conservation and sustainable development, while advocating to mainstream cultural heritage into national disaster risk reduction strategies in Western Balkan region.

We look forward to collaborating with CHwB to advance heritage conservation.
