Logging in every day is a great habit. But a streak doesn't tell you whether you're actually making real progress.

As Hritz, Director of Global Product at Berlitz, explains, the real indicator of language progress isn't how many consecutive days you've practised.

It's how much time you spend actively producing the language yourself: speaking, expressing your own ideas, receiving feedback, and trying again.

Can watching movies help you learn a language?
We already know the answer is yes.
The more interesting question is:
➡️ How can you learn a language most effectively by watching movies?
A 2026 meta-analysis of 56 studies involving nearly 2,000 language learners points to three evidence-based strategies:
1️⃣ Choose the right content.
Educational videos, Conferences, and documentaries showed the strongest learning outcomes. Their clearer pronunciation, focused topics, and more predictable language make it easier to notice new vocabulary and language patterns.
2️⃣Start before you feel "ready."
You don't need advanced language skills to benefit from watching movies. Learners at any proficiency level (A1-C2) can use videos as an effective learning tool.
3️⃣Don't just watch - interact.
The strongest results came when audiovisual content was paired with conversations, questions, exercises, and feedback. Watching provides input, but using the language in practice helps turn that input into lasting knowledge.
The takeaway?
Movies can be a powerful part of language learning - but they are most effective when watched intentionally. It's not just about what you watch. It's about how you watch it.
