Our lessons need to lean on just a few, realistically achievable learning outcomes following teachers’ goals.

Have you ever thought they are really important for keeping teachers’ motivation?

How?

When you see that your students leave your classroom having achieved the learning outcomes and your teaching goal is about to be achieved in the near future, then automatically your motivation is kept with a tendency to increase.

This means that your lesson planning was successful, and your performance and classroom management were equally good.

Your motivation is safe and you are ready to move on, to raise your teaching expectations to higher standards.

I’ve been a teacher trainer for many years and there hasn’t ever been any professional development meeting that afterwards I didn’t take some time to recollect my personal thoughts and impressions on how successfully I provided professional development sessions for peer teachers.

Why do I do that?

Here are 5 main reasons:

1 It’s a matter of decent behaviour, brought already at home, and later upgraded in following years full of hard work and constant learning.

2 I have a great deal of respect towards my own work, love for my profession and knowledge, as well as my colleagues’ work.

3 Responsibility follows equally.

4 I strongly believe that regular reflection and self-evaluation lead to short- and long-term personal, as well as professional, improvement, because it is an expected part of a routine that every serious and responsible professional does.

5 Gladly shared legacy. As a teacher, it means intellectual property that I want to leave to others. If we don’t share our own examples, knowledge, and experiential-practical suggestions-guidelines, then we can’t expect the educational community to keep the standards of teaching high.

After the finished teacher training course 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀, 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, as part of an activity that again pushed personal boundaries to get out of their comfort zone and express creatively, dear course participants made their short-format videos on their overall course experience.

As usual, after working with commitment and passion for delivering all the best I can, I can only say thank you, again, for recognizing those two essential “ingredients” for good teaching practice.

I've been a teacher trainer for many years and there hasn't ever been any professional development meeting that afterwards I didn't take some time to recollect my personal thoughts and impressions on how successfully I provided professional development sessions for peer teachers.

Why do I do that?

Here are 5 main reasons:

1 It's a matter of decent behaviour, brought already at home, and later upgraded in following years full of hard work and constant learning.

2 I have a great deal of respect towards my own work, love for my profession and knowledge, as well as my colleagues' work.

3 Responsibility follows equally.

4 I strongly believe that regular reflection and self-evaluation lead to short- and long-term personal, as well as professional, improvement, because it is an expected part of a routine that every serious and responsible professional does.

5 Gladly shared legacy. As a teacher, it means intellectual property that I want to leave to others. If we don't share our own examples, knowledge, and experiential-practical suggestions-guidelines, then we can't expect the educational community to keep the standards of teaching high.

After the finished teacher training course 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀, 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, as part of an activity that again pushed personal boundaries to get out of their comfort zone and express creatively, dear course participants made their short-format videos on their overall course experience.

As usual, after working with commitment and passion for delivering all the best I can, I can only say thank you, again, for recognizing those two essential "ingredients" for good teaching practice.

Today we started a new 𝟯-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 on 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀, 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, and this one is a little different.

It was completely tailored to the professional development needs of our participants, so we spent the day exploring, discussing, questioning, creating and reflecting on what could actually work in their own teaching contexts.

Over 𝟱.𝟱 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, we explored:

🔹 professional identity and reflection
🔹 innovative, learner-centred approaches to English language teaching
🔹 digital tools for brainstorming, discussion and interaction
🔹 critical thinking and structured speaking
🔹 AI and LLMs as teaching assistants
🔹 lesson planning and differentiated learning
🔹 sharing good practices and learning from one another

But perhaps the most important part was not the tools themselves.
It was the question behind every activity:
“How can this make learning better for our students?”

Participants tried the tools as learners first, reflected on the experience, discussed possible classroom applications and connected everything with their own professional practice.

Meaningful professional development should follow the pattern: 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 - 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

There was plenty of learning, plenty of conversation, a few “Oh, I could actually use this!” moments and, judging by the feedback and the smiles at the end of the day, plenty of satisfaction too. ❤️
