All shapes and colors of empathy

16th September
The third day of activities
Even today, the project activities were about
empathy. The morning started with three
workshops: writing a short story, Us as
refugees, us about refugees and by creating digital news. In the first workshop, the students had to change the endings of the stories, so that the stories were empathetic. In the second workshop, students analyzed media articles about refugees from their countries and
they digitally presented the problem and possible solutions. After the workshops, students had a Zoom meeting with Paul and Peter, Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave Ukraine and temporarily move to Slavonski Brod. Because of the rain, sport activities were held in school's gym instead of Poloj. Students all together were playing volleyball, but the most interesting was the game "Man, don't be mad" at which students were figures, and Macedonian team won. 🏐🏅🎽

15th September
The second day of activities
Theme for the second day was STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). At the beginning students from our school made a little quiz that contained five questions about STEM. After that, students from all the countries had to make a common poster and write S-T-E-M on it in their own language. The next activity was a short presentation of competitions in our school, such as informatics, physics, astronomy and GLOBE program. After a short break, dr. sc. Dražan Kozak held a presentation about our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Slavonski Brod and 3D printing. He talked about 3D printing which was very interesting to our guests because with 3D printer you can print whatever you want. Croatian students and physics teacher wanted to show us connection between atoms and molecules. They decided that students will act like atoms and connect to each other so it would be more interesting. After that we had two workshops and a little experiment with one student. They put a smart watch on his arm and he had to run for a few minutes. The main goal of these activities is showing that everything today is connected to empathy in some way.🔗🧪🧬🖥

14th September
The first day of activities

The first day of activities of the Erasmus+ project ˝True Colors˝ started with the programme of welcome which also had musical content. The musical part of the programme included the students of General Secondary School “Matija Mesić” and led by Mr Martić and Ms Stičinski singing songs to welcome the guests. Ms Nemet-Kosijer, Ms Mormando and Ms Jakovljević talked briefly about the project during their speeches. Students from all participating schools (from Romania, North Macedonia, Turkey, Stigliano and Bernalda-Ferrandina from Italy) briefly introduced themselves. The programme was hosted by Luka Štefanek.
The lecture “Is empathy a chemical reaction?” given by psychiatrist Bernarda Veseličić started with a digital questionnaire TEQ (used for self-checking one’s own level of empathy). The main basis of the initial statement claims that neurons and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and others greatly affect our empathy. After a break there was a workshop related to the lecture through which the students analysed videos, answered questions and revised their knowledge of empathy.☺️

12th and 13th September
Croatian students welcomed students from Romania, Italy, North Macedonia and Turkey. After the hosts hosted the students participating in the third mobility of this project in their homes, getting to know each other and socializing in Slavonski Brod began. Teachers and students are looking forward to further activities and programs.🥰
