📘 New release! GEAVET Deliverable 5.1 — Train-the-Trainers Workshop Guide for TVET Staff

Building knowledge is only part of the work. The real challenge — and opportunity — is building the capacity of the people who pass it on.

That's exactly what our Guide addresses!
GEAVET's Train-the-Trainers Workshop Guide is a comprehensive, standardised framework developed to support TVET trainers, master trainers, training coordinators, and quality assurance staff delivering Climate-Smart Agriculture and Food Systems programmes across Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Mozambique.

The guide covers what effective TVET delivery requires: competence-based training, blended and digital learning, work-based and experiential methodologies, inclusive and learner-centred teaching, and robust assessment and quality assurance practices.
It also provides detailed guidance on using the GEAVET resources and de-learning platform — a key tool for digital learning, peer collaboration, and trainer-learner communication.

The Guide is available as Open Educational Resource in three languages — English, Swahili, and Portuguese — and is designed to be used across diverse institutional and regional contexts, ensuring comparability of training outcomes and mutual recognition of competences.

When we train the trainer, we multiply the impact of every session, every season, every year.🌍

Big news for trainers in Uganda passionate about Climate-Smart Agriculture! 🌍🇺🇬

The GEAVET Project is hosting a free, two-day Virtual Train-the-Trainers Workshop, open to TVET instructors, agricultural lecturers, curriculum developers, and training coordinators based in Uganda.

Over two days, participants will learn to use the GEAVET online learning platform, explore effective teaching and facilitation methods, and gain the confidence to bring GEAVET training back to their own institutions.

At the end of the workshop you'll get a CERTIFICATION by the EU-funded GEAVET consortium!

🇲🇿 Final country spotlight: Mozambique Curriculum GEAVET Training Programme for Climate-Smart Agriculture. 🌱

The Mozambique programme was developed around the needs identified through GEAVET's field research. The results highlighted specific areas where stronger skills are needed — from intercropping and conservation agriculture to climate information, water management and renewable energy solutions.

The programme responds to these needs through 3 modules and more than 30 hours of learning activities, combining practical and theoretical contents...

One of its distinctive features is Unit 2.3 on Solar Dryers in Post-Harvest Processing. Learners explore solar drying principles and technologies, and are guided towards designing and building a functional solar dryer using locally available materials — connecting renewable energy with practical solutions to post-harvest challenges.

🇰🇪 COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT: KENYA 🌱

How do you build a Climate-Smart Agriculture training programme that actually addresses what Kenyan farmers and employers need? You start with the evidence.
A structured needs analysis — part of GEAVET's field research — identified the priority gaps in learners and workers competencies: drip irrigation installation and maintenance, rainwater harvesting, soil testing and interpretation, livestock feed and feeding management, silage production, use of climate data and early warning forecasts for farm decisions and food processing, and a full set of cross-cutting professional skills.

⏱ 30 hours 15 minutes of blended learning — problem-based activities, demonstrations, digital tools, field exercises and community reflection

Three modules:
1️⃣ Climate-Smart Farm Resource Management: feed & feed management, water quality, drip irrigation
2️⃣ Climate-Smart Decision Support: soil testing, climate data for farm decisions, seasonal forecasting for food processing
3️⃣ Transversal skills: communication, problem-solving, networking & collaboration

💧 INSIDE A UNIT: DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS
Conventional irrigation loses large amounts of water to evaporation and runoff. In this unit, learners design one for a dry-season scenario, assemble real kits, run a troubleshooting relay, install a demo plot and calculate whether it pays off...
And it pays off.
In Kibirichia (Mount Kenya), 300+ smallholder farmers trained and equipped with low-cost drip kits cut water use by 60–70%, went from 5 to 15 tonnes of tomatoes per acre, and raised household incomes by around 40%. (Source: Mt. Kenya Trust, 2021, see more within the Curriculum)

🇺🇬 Spotlight on Uganda — Country Curriculum within GEAVET Training Programme for Climate-Smart Agriculture.

Agriculture employs more than 61% of Uganda's working population. But research revealed consistent gaps in the CSA competencies of TVET graduates — particularly in areas like climate data use, livestock feed management, early warning systems, and low-emission food processing.

The Uganda curriculum was designed to fill those gaps.
It covers 3 thematic modules across topics including the use of methane-reducing feeds, hydroponic fodder production, seasonal forecasting, and communication and collaboration skills for climate-smart agriculture.

One of the highlights? Unit 2.1 — Using Climate Data for Farm Decision-Making in Uganda — which takes learners from understanding basic weather terminology all the way to building a climate-smart farm calendar and developing a practical climate action plan.

🎉 We're proud to present a bit more in-depth our 4 GEAVET Training Curricula for Climate-Smart Agriculture, designed specifically for TVET institutions and learners in Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, and Uganda.
Each curriculum was developed through field research into country-specific agricultural training needs, and covers key topics including feed and water management, soil health, intercropping, silage production, climate data use, and seasonal forecasting — all through practical, hands-on learning activities rooted in local contexts. To enhance the uptake and ensure accessibility the curricula are available both in English and in the local language!

🌾 Never Stop Learning — The GEAVET Approach to Climate-Smart Agriculture.

The climate crisis doesn't pause, and neither should learning.
Developing GEAVET means working at the intersection of vocational education and sustainable agriculture across Sub-Saharan Africa.

After months of co-development with our partners from Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, we're proud to share that our training and coaching materials on Climate-Smart Agriculture are available on our website — covering knowledge, skills, case studies, and coaching materials from agro-ecological techniques and climate-resilient farming to digital tools for women farmers and entrepreneurship in agriculture. These resources take the shape of
(A) Four country-specific Training Programmes for Climate-Smart Agriculture: Nigeria, Uganda, Mozambique, and Kenya (Project Deliverable 4.1)
and
(B) A Digi-Based Coaching Module for Women in Sustainable Agri-business and Entrepreneurship (Project Deliverable 4.2)

They cover climate-smart and agro-ecological farming practices, digital tools for modern farm management, business planning, marketing and value chain leadership, and coaching pathways for women agripreneurs.

Recently, during our International Mobility Activity in Kampala, Uganda 🇺🇬, our consortium brought educators, practitioners, and partners together to put these materials to the test — a concrete example of what peer learning and cross-border cooperation can achieve. 🌍

And this is just the beginning: a dedicated e-learning platform is in development and coming soon, to make quality CSA education even more accessible to those who need it most.

🌍 Kampala, Uganda — 20 to 24 April 2026.

This month, the GEAVET partnership gathered for its Transnational Project Mobility Activity and Meeting, hosted by our partners at Uganda Youth Skills Training Organization.

For four intensive days, all consortium members — from Uganda 🇺🇬, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Mozambique 🇲🇿, Kenya 🇰🇪, Italy 🇮🇹, Croatia 🇭🇷, and Greece 🇬🇷 — were finally gathered.

Each partner presented and delivered their national green VET training programme, in front of the full consortium and local participants. What had been months of research, design, and collaboration came to life: the materials were tested, discussed, and formally validated! ✅ They are ready to serve the purpose of enhancing accessible and quality education and training for Climate-Smart Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa.

But the week wasn't only about what happens in a training room. Field visits took the group to agricultural research stations, local farms, and a women-led agribusiness — a direct encounter with the realities that GEAVET's green skills programmes are designed to address.

The week closed with a clear roadmap ahead — including the next phase of the upload of the final GEAVET free e-learning platform! We literally can't wait to share it with you!

This is Erasmus+ Capacity Building in action: knowledge built together, tested in the field, and shared across two continents. 🌱

🌱 The GEAVET project is in full swing... and we're right in the middle of the most exciting part: the heart of the project ❤️

We've spent months building the foundations: research, analysis, good practices from across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, and a clear picture of what farmers, trainers and educators in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Mozambique actually need. Now we're turning all of that into real tools that will be made available in a super user-friendly and free e-platform.

And very soon, the whole Consortium will be on the ground in Uganda 🇺🇬 (hosted by ! ) for an in-person capacity building week — a peer learning opportunity that no online meeting can replace!

Two big training resources are also almost ready to be published. We can't say more just yet… but watch this space 🔔
