Development Framework: Empathy ➡️ Listening ➡️ Empowerment

Empathy is a precondition for deep listening, while both empathy and listening are essential ingredients of empowerment. All three of these leadership capabilities can positively influence employee well-being, engagement and retention. They can also create transferable experiences and values, as employees can further integrate them into their work, consequently improving the well- being of others.

Sanja Zivkovic authored a professional paper “Leadership Development in Elderly Care Institutions: , , ” that includes suggestions for developing these leadership capabilities that are applicable in most organizational contexts.

At the 12th PAR International Conference held in Opatija on March 31, 2023 and organized by PAR University of Applied Sciences, Sanja Zivkovic presented her scientific paper “Creating Value from Intellectual Property in the Digital Age: Collaboration and the Unexplored Role of Leadership”.

Sanja Zivkovic delivered a guest lecture at Ekonomski fakultet Zagreb to students of the graduate program and Erasmus students.

She discussed with students why one wants to lead, what impact can be created through self-leadership, community leadership and organizational leadership, and how leadership capabilities can be developed.

for sustainability or impact? Compliance- or purpose-driven? Zero or positive effect on society and the environment?

Sanja Zivkovic delivered a guest lecture “Leadership for Moving Beyond Sustainability” at PAR University College to a group of students from South Korea, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Croatia attending the international winter school INCASO 2023.

And what did the students say when they were asked what leaders should demonstrate to move beyond sustainability? Empathy, caring, listening, openness, and honesty. Sanja just added courage to that.

Sanja Zivkovic delivered a guest lecture "Leadership: Why, What, How" at RIT Croatia international campus in Zagreb.

It was inspiring to hear RIT students and staff views on what matters the most when leading ourselves, others and organizations: vision and purpose, confidence, trustworthiness, focus on doing good, and empathy.

At the 18th European Conference on Management and Governance held in Lisbon, Portugal on November 10, 2022, Sanja Zivkovic presented her scientific paper “Sustainability Leadership and Boards: A Conceptual Framework”.

By linking purpose and authenticity, power and responsibility, and process and transformation, Sanja offered a novel perspective on how could enhance their engagement and performance by developing and demonstrating specific behaviors.

This conference organized by Academic Conferences International gathers participants from all over the world and is one of the most prominent in the leadership field.

Self-leadership is needed at all organizational levels. In the scientific paper titled “Self-Leadership Development in Organizations: From Awareness to Impact”, Sanja Zivkovic has proposed a development model consisting of the following dimensions:
· AWARENESS (values, needs, aspirations)
· ACTION (strategies, programs, tools)
· IMPACT (well-being, engagement, performance)

Managers, team leaders, and human resources specialists can use the proposed model as a supplement to recruitment, learning and development practices, as well as in designing and implementing programs aimed at enhancing , , and .

The findings of this research also indicate that self-leadership should become an integral part of programs, as well as organizational development initiatives related to creating a culture of and .

At the 13th International Odyssey Conference on Economics and Business organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb, held in Dubrovnik on June 3, 2022, Sanja Zivkovic was a session chair for presentations in the field of Contemporary .

At this session, she also presented her scientific paper “Self-Leadership Development in Organizations: From Awareness to Impact”.

This multi-level conceptual framework summarizes the research results of Sanja Zivkovic's first published scientific paper "Empathy in leadership: How it enhances effectiveness".

This research offers practical implications for:
➡️ Leadership development specialists – in designing and implementing tailored programs
➡️ Organizational development specialists – in diagnosing, intervening, and evaluating the impact of certain behaviors on organizational culture and performance
➡️ Human resources managers - including empathy as competency in job specifications and personality tests in recruitment processes
➡️ Business leaders – in better understanding the complex nature of empathy and the impact it has on the level of leader, followers, and organization

Leading with is more complex and demanding but it is also a more fulfilling way of being… With these words, Sanja Zivkovic has concluded the presentation of her scientific conference paper at the 10th International OFEL Conference on Governance, Management and Entrepreneurship and "esd" International Scientific Conference on Economic and Social Development held in Dubrovnik on April 1, 2022.

Heartist Center education and development programs include enhancement of empathy as one of key competency.
