Creativity in action! 🏀♻️

Continuing the Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry — this time with upcycling.

No instructions, just imagination. Each Grade 2 student designed and created their own basketball basket using recycled materials.

Through creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on thinking, our second graders discovered how everyday materials can be reused in meaningful ways.

From Plitvice landscapes to Tesla’s inventions, Grade 6 and 7 took learning beyond the classroom through hiking, cave exploration, and a visit to the Nikola Tesla Museum. Through questioning, observing, and investigating real-world examples of nature and science in action, students developed the IB Learner Profile of being Inquirers, while exploring the key concepts of Change and Connection.

Although DP exams are now behind them and our graduates are currently enjoying their graduation trip in Portugal, we’re still thinking back to their final day at school. 🇵🇹

To make the occasion even more memorable, our first-year DP students prepared a special surprise for the graduating class.

As part of their “Sharing the Planet” inquiry, Grade 1 & 2 visited the Botanical Garden Kaštel Lukšić to explore how living things depend on one another to survive. Students developed their research and observation skills while being caring and knowledgeable learners as they investigated plants, habitats, and ecosystems.

Our Grade 8 students spent an educational and meaningful day visiting the Memorial Centre “Josip Jović” in Aržano, where they attended a lecture on the Croatian Homeland War, explored authentic exhibits, and learned about the life and sacrifice of Josip Jović, the first Croatian victim of the war.

The trip then continued to Imotski, where students visited the breathtaking Blue and Red Lakes and enjoyed a walking tour through the town’s historic centre, discovering its rich cultural heritage and unique natural beauty.

A day of learning, reflection, and discovery beyond the classroom. 🇭🇷

Book Character Day in PYP

Our PYP students brought their favourite stories to life as they dressed up as beloved book characters, filling the school with creativity, imagination, and a love of reading.

From colourful costumes to shared stories and classroom activities, the day celebrated the joy of books and the power of storytelling to inspire curiosity and connection.

And the best part? Make sure to check the last slide - our Principal paid a special visit to Grade 1 and joined the students for story time!

Meet Marianne - Grade 4 Teacher

Get to know Marianne through a fun this or that! 👩🏻‍🏫

With over 20 years of teaching experience in the Chicago area, Marianne brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her classroom. She has taught both elementary and middle school, with a strong focus on mathematics.

Marianne believes learning should be fun and meaningful. She creates a supportive environment where students collaborate, ask questions, and grow from mistakes - building confidence both academically and personally.

Now in Split, she’s enjoying the sunshine, exploring the city with her family, and spending time outdoors - whether at the beach, hiking, or reading a good book.

As part of our Earth Day learning, our PYP 3 and 4 students explored the idea that water is a shared responsibility. During a workshop at Stella Croatica, they deepened their understanding of how individual choices impact the environment.

They then took action by cleaning the beaches at Bačvice and Firule, demonstrating strong social, communication, and self-management skills. Throughout the day, students showed what it means to be caring, principled, and reflective learners — making a positive difference in their community.

A meaningful example of inquiry, action, and responsibility in practice. 🌍
