4️⃣ We use Trimix 18/35 on this film dive to the SS POLYNESIEN. The Helium helps with both gas density and to avoid narcosis and keep mental clarity.

3️⃣ Even though she was originally a passenger ocean liner, the SS POLYNESIEN had a big gun mounted to her stern.

This is because during WWI she was used as a troop transporter and needed defenses. Unfortunately, these defenses were insufficient against German U-boats, like the one that ultimately sunk her.

2️⃣ Because of the depth of 68 meters, we need to maximize our bottom time efficiently on the wreck of the SS POLYNESIEN.

That's why I place cameras everywhere. Including on our DPV's.

This allows us to cruise around along the length of the 150 meter, 500 feet wreckage and film everything.

🤓 SCUBA SCIENCE IS BACK! In this episode we ask ourselves: ⚓ What is the oldest shipwreck that we can still see underwater today? 🤔

Turns out that going back in time 100 years is only the tip of the ice berg as some wrecks are literally thousands of years old. Their remains can still be identified to this day.

👀 You have to admit that, as a diver, there is something intriguing about this. The USS Kittiwake had an entire advanced diving operations platform on board. Including gas mixing facilities.
👉 You can still see the storage cylinders, but they all have had holes made in them so they could be sunk along with the ship itself.
